We’ve lived here over two months. Nothing but positives so far. It’s a smaller community so the leasing office is very accessible and maintenance has been very responsive. It’s run by the same management company that runs the Alante nearby. Sunlight doesn’t usually come into the rooms on the first floor but the place is bright enough.

The Oliver at the Alexandria looks like a nice place but its not as good as you think. When we first moved in the management was suspect, Ana was horrible but Brandy was good. Even though they started renovating the old apartments. We had a really terrible cockroach problem for atleast 7 months of our stay which then escalated into a rodent problem. They have 2 trash cans located in the back for over 50 unites of residents. At night itll be numerous RATS and raccoons which is problematic and unsanitary. They treated long term residents that lived there for a decade like trash and kicked them out to renovate for new demographic. The parking situation is really bad. Only maybe 2 cars can be parked and you have to buy a parking pass which you need to pay $75 a month for. They will tow your car even if someone is visiting you. Overall, this place is definitely the 2.4 stars that it is rated, location is good but the overall apartments are not.

I moved to VA from out of state and also manage an apartment community nearby; my experience has been rocky since the moment I applied. My partner and I applied on a Friday and the following Monday, the price changed because we "hadn't sent all supporting documents yet"... Our app was entered, $350 paid and the documents were sent THAT MONDAY, within 48 hours of applying. They were gracious enough to waive our app fees, but this was already a red flag. We were desperate to move before everything was shut down due to COVID, so accepted the increase. When we moved in, the HVAC did not work and the unit was not cleaned well, but overall the upgrades LOOKED nice. The patio blinds began to fall off every time we opened them or the patio door and my partner (who also works in maintenance) would repair them himself to avoid interaction due to COVID until the blinds could no longer be salvaged (not to mention, the blinds didn't even open properly and there are no lights in the living room). There were many other issues, but again left to avoid exposure due to COVID. This was not taken into consideration by the community at all; we were charged for things that 'should have been serviced before our move out date'. The walls were EXTREMELY thin; my neighbors fought and the police came out often, loud music throughout the day and sometimes late into the night between 2am-4am. Parking for guests was nonexistent; you have to request a pass through the office and there were only about 5 spaces for the entire community, which is ridiculous. My biggest pet peeve with this community was that they dont properly communicate with residents. The water was constantly being shut off or something was being serviced and they would not even give a 24 hour notice! The apartment next door underwent a full renovation for weeks and we weren't even given a heads up. They scheduled paint in the building the same time I was moving without proper notice and it was a complete NIGHTMARE; dust and paint everywhere! Out of respect, residents shouldn't find out about services the day before they happen. We also started noticing pests and rodents after the renovation, that we hadn't seen in the first 8 months being there. My partner found multiple holes and openings throughout the unit and behind appliances that had not been filled and they were likely coming from. Lastly, the notice period was not clear at all; I didn't even receive a renewal offer and remembered to put in a 60 day notice (most properties send renewals out prior to the 60 day notice as a courtesy...they obviously don't care about being courteous). I never received confirmation about my notice, i didn't know what my final prorated rent was, the condition the unit needed to be left in or even general estimates of charges. Fast forward and I receive a final statement with CRAZY charges. Working in property management, I have seen apartments left in all types of condition so I made sure to clean to the best of my ability. I was charged $120 and my checklist was labeled "Dirty" in all spaces. I asked for the photos that were taken and it did not include anything remotely "Dirty" aside from walls (which obviously got painted). I have been in this industry for a while and in VA for a year now, and with the way COVID has affected residents, you'd think they would have a little more integrity; they have lost a lot of money and are obviously trying to make up for it with excessive charges. The quality of life there is not worth the price and there are many other great communities in the area to choose from with better prices! The one star is literally for Brandy because she has always been helpful. But overall, I would NOT recommend this community to anyone; there are many better options in Arlington/ Alexandria/ Falls Church. **I had to include my own photos, since they claim their photos prove my unit was left dirty. Again, clearly trying to make up for rent loss with BS charges. And STILL waiting to hear from corporate after notifying them 2 weeks ago to dispute this... my company would NEVER.

I LOVE THE OLIVER! The staff is incredible and extremely responsive. They truly go above and beyond to make you happy, comfortable and part of the community. It is a small complex so you truly do know your neighbors and all the staff. The renovations they've done are beautiful and super unique. Absolutely beautiful. We have lived here since June and just beyond happy. Side note: I read through the other reviews on here and they aren't accurate... We don't have a main gate, we don't have security guards in buildings, I haven't had a rodent problem (and I live right near the dumpsters) and I have never been treated poorly. Definitely not the Oliver reviews. Brandy in the office is seriously a godsend! If you are thinking about looking here, you should!
