Perfect day trip from Dallas. I took the family here for my brothers birthday. Although it was hot out & a lot of the animals were relaxing in the shade we were still able to interact with a lot of them. I read that the average time spent here is 2 hours but we were there for almost 3 hours. They have a ‘1 bag of animal food per car’ rule but it’s a lot of animal food & if there are multiple people in your vehicle they will give you a few empty bags so the animal food can be shared amongst everyone in the car who wants to feed the animals. There’s a nice little cafe at the mid point with a pretty overlook. Conveniently located near other points of interest like the dinosaur park.

This is such an amazing and beautiful place. The three times we have been have equally been different each time. The first two times you got more more food to feed the animals but our most recent trip in May 2022 it was only one bag per vehicle. We were using it so sparingly though that we still wound up have some at the end of the drive. We went through early in the morning all three of our visits and didn’t encounter much traffic any of our visits. You can go at your own pace and stop to “visit” with any animals near/on the road. The only animals you can hand feed now are the giraffes, the rest you have to toss/drop on the ground. This last visit, the staff had put out a lot of food in the roads which for one made it so there were plenty of animals up close to see but for two made it so that they weren’t very interested in the few pellets coming from our passing car. All of the animals are so beautiful and seeing these wild animals up close is so majestic! Our 2022 visit we finally got to see several Zebra up close. We also had a sun roof this time and having the giraffe reach down through the roof was amazing!!!! The mid point there is a Children’s area, gift shop, GREAT bathrooms (so clean) and a cafe. The children’s area is great (there’s a separate Google review spot for it so I will detail that there) you can pet and brush goats! The gift shop is huge and has an amazing array of items and a ton of plushies. We’ve never eaten at the cafe before but I did learn you can access this area of fossil rim separately for FREE through another entrance. Overall it’s a great drive through experience. It is pricey because you pay per person, not per car. With 5 of us, it seemed like a hefty price tag but it’s worth it. It really is. We will definitely be back. I hope to be able to ride on a public tour one day (even more of a cost per person) where you ride in one of their vehicles and get access to a bit more and some behind the scenes areas. Would highly recommend and just think -the cost helps animals in this great habitat. Take pictures with the dinosaurs on your way out if you are/have Dino lovers in your car!

One of the best place for a unique family fun.. Be sure to follow the arrows if you take the self guided tour. We took a wrong turn and lost half of the tour and exited. And you can’t go back in. Admin wasn’t very helpful about it. Also, tickets are non refundable, but maybe rescheduled. My parents couldn't make it and their tickets were wasted. My car has a nice long deep scratch from the antlers of a deer. So don’t bring your car if you’re too sensitive. You have to drive very patiently and carefully, lots of cars stop and take turns to feed and enjoy the animals…

We went with self tour. It was an Amazing experience. Kids loved it. Animals were friendly and felt safe and well managed. Animals come closer to car and we can feed it is provided 1 cup/car. Roads are good & Driving speed is 15MPH and takes around 3 hours including break in midway having store, restarea etc. Highly recommend and good place for 1 day trip.

We did the guided tour and it was well worth the money. Our guide was amazing and educated us on the history of the facility as well as very interesting facts about the animals. We had far more access to the animals since they took us to areas of the preserve that aren't accessible by those just driving through. It was an incredible adventure which we plan on doing again soon!
Admission for the 7.2-mile Gosdin Scenic Drive is $24.95 for guests age 12-61, $22.45 for guests age 62 or older, $19.95 for guests age 3-11, and guests below age three will be free. Comes with a free bag of food. Dallas or Caldwell Zoo members get 50% off admission.
No; they have some limited lodging on-site, but they don't offer any type of tent camping. I would recommend looking at Dinosaur Valley State Park, which is nearby and has inexpensive tent camping and other activities, and then driving over to Fossil Rim for a tour or to do the Gosdin scenic drive in your own vehicle.
Yes. We only close three days out of the year and those days are Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Otherwise we are open 362 days a year.
They are also preparing for the private night tours for the people wanting to see the nocturnal animals in there habitat
No, it is one per vehicle. It is a rule implemented by the veterinarians to help prevent overeating.
