We did the guided tour and it was well worth the money. Our guide was amazing and educated us on the history of the facility as well as very interesting facts about the animals. We had far more access to the animals since they took us to areas of the preserve that aren't accessible by those just driving through. It was an incredible adventure which we plan on doing again soon!
How much extra we paid for tour guided?
Is the guided tour more expensive?
You learn a lot more (any of your questions are answered), you get more food to feed the animals, the tour vehicle can take routes your vehicle cannot. Those are the main differences. I highly recommend trying a tour at least once - definitely a morning tour to try to avoid the summer heat.
The last time I went, the tour bus got to go a lot closer to the animals in some places. The giraffes were standing around their feeding area and didn't want to come out by the road. But the bus drove right up next to the food.
