Elephant Rock is a giant white rock jutting out of the side of the mountain. A few daring souls climb down a small steep descent to get to the actual rock for even better views than what you get from the recently-dedicated bench. The straight line distance between the parking area outside the park gates and the actual Elephant Rock isn’t very far, but it is considering you zigzag from canyon to canyon to get there. So, don’t underestimate the climb, which is 3.1 miles if I remember correctly. Budget 1.5 hours for the way up as an average climber, about 1 hour down unless you take pictures along the way. The trail itself is well kept except for a rocky area after the first bend. After the recent windstorm, some trees and undergrowth have been knocked over, but the debris was all cleared within a week. I’d give the trail and scenery 5 stars, but no one here except me and a select few wear masks while on the narrow trail.

Great easy hike, not difficult at all just very long so prepare to hike for a while if you want to get to the rock itself. The trail itself can get pretty muddy so prepare for that but it goes through the trees the majority of the time and is very pleasant!

Awesome hike. Watch out for bikers, most are nice but some seem irritated they have to share the trail with people and dogs.

This is a great hike. It's also very popular. Expect to see plenty of other hikers and mountain bikers. You'll also see plenty of dogs, most of them are off leash, but friendly. There are also the occasional motorcycle and horse. That's really the only downside. It's a very popular trail. However, you can't beat the views, and everyone we've ever met on the trail has been courteous. It may be too much for little kids. Our two year old is a trooper, but even in the baby backpack, he got worn out. The pictures are unedited, and were taken from the benches which overlook Elephant Rock and the valley below. The views are incredible. As you can see, we made it before dark and we were not disappointed!

Yes, and it is a VERY fun bike trail. The majestic beauty is well worth getting up there. The trail continues into North Canyon, to be a loop. LOVE that place!!!!

It's a little steep right at the beginning, but don't let that scare you. It is a much more gradual climb after the first short hill. It's about 6 and 3/4 miles and 1000 feet of elevation climb round trip to the rock and back. There is an observation point above the rock that is much safer than crawling around the cliff top. And as the other local guide stated - excellent views. The formation's original name is "white rock", or "big white rock". Elephant rock is actually a formation (that looks like an elephant) on the opposite side of the canyon that is visible from white rock. At some point, the two were mislabeled on a map and has since been perpetuated as elephant rock. This is why you see different names on different maps.

No. If you want to hike to Elephant Rock, finding a close parking spot can be a challenge, then begin your walk by crossing the bridge before the entrance to Muller Park.
