There are several campgrounds to choose from along Chalk Creek and I think this one is one of the prettiest. It’s also further from the road making it a bit more quiet. We chose a walk in tent spot along the back loop and it was fantastic. The sites are spacious and well spaced. We stayed at site 7. You do have to walk up some steps to access the tent pad, picnic table and fire pit. You can hike right outside your camp. The hosts were amazingly friendly and knowledgeable about the area. On their advice we drove up to St. Elmo and also to Iron City Cemetery (located at another campground near St. Elmo). We also did an easy hike up to Agnes Vaille falls which is close by. The only downside is there are no bear lockers, so you have to store stuff in your vehicle. We were warned by the hosts that there was an active bear in the area the week we camped here.

This place had some amazing views, at night the stars looks so wonderful. Depending on your camping style (camper/tent), the moon shines very bright later in the night. August was a serene time to go, you could hear the river running. Pictures don't do the stars any justice. Wish there was an area more through the trees for our tent. Garbage disposable, restrooms, water pump available. $22/night, $7/day

So so pretty...amazing view...just down the street from the colorado trail (yayyy) and a short hike to a waterfall...rained a lot, but did not have to use sunscreen at all...almost like a rainforest. Ghost town nearby too if you are into such things... I'm not really

Stayed overnight 6.19.19, had a rockslide about 70 yards west of the campground at 6:30 am on the 20th, pretty cool only because it didn't hit the camp. Overall though nice little place, good camp host and close to good hiking

They only allow unlicensed recreational vehicles above Cascade camp ground after the non paved road. You're best to head up to Iron City camp ground for that. They do not provide or rent those vehicles, but there are places near Buena Vista or Salida that might rent them out.
