Beautiful area and trails. A very cool place to hang out for an afternoon with friends and family, or have a picnic. Trails of widely varying lengths abound and amazing pine trees tower in a well-preserved nature area.

Great place for a hike. Great views. Easy hike for all.

Campground itself NOT open. But area is quiet. Lovely few hours along trails. Aroma of pine is so very good for lungs. Would love to be in that area daily, if only a few moments.

Great space to pitch tents and shelters for rain or sun. Had a 60+ family reunion in the reserved space there. No electricity, and only portapotties, so about half the group got b&bs or vrbos in nearby towns. Nice variety of hikes and lots of recreational opportunities close by.

Not sure if things have changed, but there would always be a bon fire up there at gatherings. As long as you're safe about it and depending on fire danger warnings. Best places are in the "caves" up in the rocks. Hope that helps.
As its name suggests, it is a group campground requiring reservations through forest service. Don't usually observe any single campers there. Mostly day use. It would be wise to check in with forest service before planning to camp there. There are other campgrounds nearby that often have RVs parked in them and they are not identified as a group campground.
