This is a great place to see the Golden Gate Bridge! The view is great since you can see the bridge span the opening of the bay. Also the fort is fun to look around and the location makes sense as a point of defense. We went on a fairly windy and cool day so if that's the case when you're visiting, bring a coat or at least a wind breaker. Great national historic site and worth the visit.

Wow! Did not know this was here and stumbled on it when we went to look at the bridge. Free to enter! So many historical artifacts and lots of information to read. Really well put together museum. Would really recommend coming here! Great views of the bridge too!

Free... Great experience. A photographers dream. The Historic Fort is pretty much as it was. Natural lighting on the lower levels...kinda cool to wander around inside. The views of the bay and Gold Gate Bridge from the Fort's roof level is well worth it. Parking is bad. Can get busy and fill up quickly. We parked far away and walked down to the fort. However if you are in to taking pictures...come here.

This place amazing views. A beautiful sunset spot in SF! There is no hassle entering into the building. The topmost floor closes at 4:45pm and the sites is closed by 5pm sharp so it’s best we plan accordingly.

Yes. There are 3 right in the area. Fort Point is only open Thur - Sun, so plan according. Besides FT Point, you can also get a passport stamp at the Warming Hut at the bottom of the hill as you drive down to Ft Point, & then the GG bridge visitor center up above. If he wants a 4th stamp, you can drive through the Presidio out to Lands End for his 4th stamp.
There is a parking lot with plenty of parking. We went in the morning in July around 9am and there were plenty of spots! Might start to fill up as the day goes on, so would suggest getting there in the morning to beat any crowds!
Super limited near the fort. Crissy field has more parking available and is a short walk from the fort. There is a price for parking there (abt $7/day)
The option by foot is via a set of steps that are positioned on the slope between Crissy Field and the Fort. These lead to other paths that eventually lead to the bridge. Keep your heading toward the golden gate to get there. Adults and older kids should have an easy time. Smaller kids/toddlers may tire. It's not a difficult or long walk. Golden gate sf side should be approachable from fort point within 20 or so minutes (or less)
There is no fee, but they have a donation box at the entrance if you'd like to give some money to help keep Fort Point maintained.
No, Drones are not allowed to fly on federal land, which fort point is on. You can't fly it anywhere in Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which means Alcatraz, Fort Point, Muir Woods, Marin Headlands, the Presdio, Baker Beach, Fort Funston, Mori Point, Etc. There are more, if its a National Park, drones cannot fly there.
10-5 is fri-sun
Their website states they are closed Monday through Thursday weekly
Honestly we went on a Sunday at around 4-5 pm and there weren't too many people there.
It had been a Spanish fort which we took and it located is so ideal they keep it for protection for the bay
The fort is free to roam. If you're friendly to the Ranger some have been known to walk you through on a personal tour.
