Very interesting, great place to bring kids. Lots of cool exhibitions. There is a parking garage just on the other side of the capital building a short walk from the museum.

Second floor is not a museum at all. It contains no artifacts, filled with modern political propaganda leaflets. The first floor is better, has some old household stuff, some Indian items (much worse than Indian museum)

Overall an OK experience. Good Women’s exhibit. Not very many actual historical items though, most of the exhibits were printed things on the wall or posters. If you’re going to be called The California Museum, the expectation is higher I think. Also if you’re visiting with kids or the elderly, restrooms are in the basement — you have to take the elevator or stairs and a little ways if you are already in need of assistance.

We went to see the Greenbook exhibit. The kids had fun. We enjoyed several interesting artifacts although the exhibit was mostly comprised of pictures and information. We were a little disappointed because we heard that the previous day had guest speakers like the California Secretary of State. Overall it was a good experience.

To echo some of the previous comments, the interactive exhibits are ideal for all levels of learning, regardless of disability or other limitations. Have a great time at the museum!
If your kids like to touch things keep a close eye, because touching is off limits for some of the cars.
What about a local Chico museum? You have the Bidwell mansion... should be others with local flavor!
I have no idea You would probably have to look that 1 up
Try calling the museum
Not that I can remember
I think pets are not allowed in the museum.
College student admission is $7.50 with valid student ID. A number of free days, admissions coupons and reduced admission offers are also offered, visit https://www.californiamuseum.org for details.
A complimentary wheelchair can be provided on request but is subject to availability.
There is meter parking on the street, but your best option is to take light rail.
I went there with my daughter's class and love it. The docent we got was very knowledgeable and her talk was really interesting. Wish we had more time
No, members of the Crocker Art Museum do not receive free admission because the Crocker Art Museum discontinued their participation in the NARM reciprocal program with other Sacramento museums in 2017. All other members of NARM organizations do receive free admission at the California Museum, however.
