Nice campground with a couple of caveats: 1. You will probably hear training drills from the nearby Marine base - probably only an issue for light sleepers or whose pets will react. 2. There appear to be many pack rat middens in the bushes between sites - not a huge deal, but there is a chance of them getting into your engine bay/chewing your vehicle wiring.

Love the 1 mile nature hike to the beach and the RV hook ups and tent camping, and the clean restrooms. But this is a place with campsites 10 feet apart and fully allows people in their mid-40s to pack 4 families into one site with kids and dogs running all over your campsite while the adults drink and play music all day and easily until 2am. The rangers just shrug and say, “yeah, they’ll probably calm down later.” We brought our kids here but NOT our speakers, karaoke machine, 90s rock and all the beer, and really tried to enjoy the beauty and quiet and the hikes and the surfing this campground has to offer. Other neighboring campers made it extremely difficult.

Site #13, electricity and water hookups. Clean restrooms and showers. Surprisingly quiet for being so close to the 5 Freeway. Nice hike to world famous Trestles Beach, watch the surfers ride the waves. Occasional gunshots and blasts from nearby Camp Pendleton, but we only heard them during the day on Saturday.

Great place, just NOT near the beach. A mile and a half at least and it's only an easy walk if you are a Marine! The campground itself is very nice. Clean, well maintained area. Bathrooms were clean and functioning, showers are token operated, machine right there, great pressure and hot water!! Sites are mostly good sized and far enough away from neighbors. Thanks USMC!

Yes, beautiful place
There are water spickets and all the bathrooms have hot water
Best way to see site book online. Chick on sites available and will tell all details. Of that site number. I also enter in my login RV lnfo. Can also click on pic give good idea of trees ECT. Most of the site here have trees or brush in between for privacy. Both h/u and reg camping cam hold RV np.. make sure go all way to end to confirm reservations
Nope. Check the reserve California website often. You usually need to reserve in advance.
No
High season pretty much Starts Now through October
Yes. But a tent might be hard to sleep in if an RV is running a Generator.
You need to be 18 in order to camp with the state parks. However, If you get a signed parent permission form for every person camping then you can camp under the age of 18. Also I would highly recommend getting a reservation. some spots are way better then others and to have the best time I would highly recommend a reservation.
You can have up to 3 licensed vehicles per camp site. It includes trailers, motorcycles, and motorhomes. Also you will have to pay the $15 overnight camping fee or day use fee. HOWEVER that is if you drive the vehicle in. IF YOU TOW the motorcycle/ car/ trailer when you check in the vehicle is give a free tow tag.
You can choose both opitions. We had water and electric hook ups. The have a sewage dump on the campgrounds but not in your site.
I probably would. I was by myself with a small tent and I don’t think anyone else would have fit with me in the spot I had. Site 153.
You can no longer purchase a campsite directly from the campground. There is no longer a lottery for available sites and all reservations must be made online through reserve California.com
They will most likely full if you don't plan ahead. You are able to reserve up to 6 months in advance.
When I was there last month we were able to have one only in the fire pit they provide
40/65 depending on if you want hook ups
You do not need an rv I just went and stayed in my tent
There is a lot designated for day use parking. Vehicles parked in this lot must vacate the park by 10:00 p.m.
They are completely shut down. Tried to dump my rv tanks today and couldn't even do that.
When do you open for RV camping?
My group usually sticks to the center aisle, sites 50-60s. Stay closer to the ends for more access to bathrooms and showers if you need them. We usually have 3 trailers/motorhomes and 1 site that we use for 2 tents. All spacious.
Depends on the spot. I paid $35 for one then $65 for a larger spot equipped with hook ups.
Once you have your camping placard parking at various beaches is free. Car parking is 35$
You will need to pay a day use fee to use the area and facilities
20 dollars a night it safe it a marine camp site.
No dogs are allowed on the beach. Only on paved sections at the campground.
Yes there is a section for tenting
Yes
Yes!
You can walk to the beach from San Mateo to Trestles or just north of San Onofre
Yes, but they need to leashed and keep an eye on the small dogs. Coyotes are a danger
It is a mile and a half to the beach. There are some hills so it is not an easy stroll. With your campground pass you can park for free at the state park beaches though
Just left😁@ 1030am!! We had a 🔥 last night!!
Yes camp fires. They sell wood cash only $7 a bundle. They have grated fire rings but I don't remember if there was bbqs.
Not if your quiet enough
The flyer they gave me when I checked in said three vehicles max per site. I saw a number of groups with three cars parked
This is winter iots of campsites rates are lots cheaper then in summer
T-mobile works barely, make all your calls from the top of the ampethreater
I'm pretty sure and the sites are quite large
Reserve California
All sites do. Bring diatomaceous earth, The pest control type. The ants are horrible and you may wake up in the morning with them all over your tent. DE is the only thing they allow you to use to combat them. Put a thick layer of DE around your tent
Yes
Either a phone call or on line through reserve america on their website
Yes its,a weak single in campground! Works most of the time, but may be slow depending on where you are or your spot!
Go to the website Reserve California. Often spaces are available first come first serve.
The park rangers gate closes at 10pm. Its not really a check-in. First come first serve unless the site you want is reserved the same time you are there. You can still go into the campgrounds after hours. Just pay your fees in the morning. The rangers or site hosts are not gonna stop paying campers who show up late.
No river. No fishing. Near ocean can take a small hike to beaches.
You can hike the 2 miles to the ocean and Trestles beach and fish from the beach but there are no lakes.
Go to parks.ca.gov/pages/647/files/sanmateo082609.pdf
Thanks. The bigger problem is trying to make the reservation on the site. It says no availability even though no, 5 days earlier lots available. I am wondering how i can make a reservation? Can you show up and pay there?
