Early Monday morning we discovered the sound of running water, I placed a call to Helix Irrigation thinking something was wrong with our water meter. What seemed like a short amount of time two very polite gentlemen arrived to evaluate our problem. Turns out the meter wasn’t the problem but, these two employees discovered a pin hole leak in a irrigation copper pipe. My Son, was able to repair the leak and I Cannot thank them enough for helping me.

The staff there is rude and their customer service are very unprofessional. They post the finger to the customer, is never their fault and, the customer is they one who pay their mistakes.

What does SWCDA stand for?

JEAN ALBERS | Jul 24, 2022
Helix Water District | Jul 24, 2022

Hi Jean, SDCWA stands for San Diego County Water Authority. They are the public agency that imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California into the San Diego region. They also develop regional water resources like the Carlsbad Desalination Plant. Helix and the other 23 retail water suppliers serving the San Diego region buy most of our water from the Water Authority. The relationship between the Water Authority and the 24 retail water suppliers is very collaborative and together we decide how to invest the money we pay to them for the development of new water supplies. Since the 1990s, we have invested $3 billion in water conservation and a diversified portfolio of water resources.

Pipe leak is on my property outside in the grass -- is it my expense to repair leak or the city's? The pipe is one that leads water into the house.

TJ is correct. Helix is responsible for everything up to the water meter. Any leaks after the water meter are private leaks and the responsibility of the customer. We have tips on checking for leaks at hwd.com/water-meter. Michelle Curtis Helix Water District

We are interested in getting a Flume water meter leak detector. We live at 4625 Calavo Dr La Mesa 91941. Is our water meter "compatible" with the Flume? What type and model do we have (on your records?) And do we need a plumber? Eligible 4 rebate?

Valerie Shields | Aug 24, 2019
Helix Water District | Aug 24, 2019

Good afternoon Ms. Shields, The water meter at your property is a Elster/Amco C700 3/4" meter. In regards to the Flume device, yes, that is a device that is eligible for the rebate. You would need to contact Flume to determine if the water meter at your home is compatible with their device and for specific installation requirements. With that said, external devices such as the Flume attach to the outside of the water meter and typically do not require a plumber. If the Flume device does not meet your needs, there are other devices that are also eligible for the rebate program - you can find more information at https://hwd.com/smart-leak-detector-rebate/.

Hello, thank you for asking. Unfortunately by California law, public water utilities like ourselves are unable to offer discounted rates or services to customers. Because of this, Helix Water District legally can not offer a low-income rate. We do have programs and services available to our customers to help them save money on their water bills, including rebates and free water conservation audits.
