Very simple - don't wait in line at the DMV. Just go to the left side of the Oceanside DMV when looking at the front entrance. Pull into the middle left lane & someone will come out and perform the inspection and give you necessary paperwork. It is free and takes 5 minutes assuming no line and an employee is monitoring the area.

Go to their website dmv.ca.gov and you can apply online. I suggest getting a Real ID that will allow you to use it for travel beginning in Oct of this year. Once you apply online it will allow you to get an appt and you don't have to wait in line.

Without an appointment 2-3 hours if you get there when they open, if you go later in the afternoon expect to be there till they close, if you can even get in.
