Questions & Answers

My Name is Peter Pham, I purchased land in California City many years ago with too high price. I have a question as to how to reduce my properties tax to the present value of the land (empty lot that never got developed as originally promised)

Kern County Treasurer and Tax Collector | Jun 24, 2022

Property taxes are based on the value of the property that the County Assessor places on the tax roll. Contact the Kern County Assessor's office at (661) 868-3485 and let them know that you would like a review of the valuation for your property.

How do I find my name I have in claimed money

Marcella Salinas | Aug 24, 2018
Micheal Kinney | Aug 24, 2019

Use the California State Controller's website at http://www.sco.c.gov/UCP/, another thing I use is Credit Karma that helps you find unclaimed monies for free. You should never pay money to claim something that's already yours (pay money to claim money = scam, usually). Best!

My parents own a property in Cal City. They passed away in 2000 and 2001. I have been paying the property taxes since then. Can I submit a claim for property ownership because of my 20 plus years of payments.

Abe Aiona | Jun 24, 2022
Kern County Treasurer and Tax Collector | Jun 24, 2022

Your question is one that a probate judge should be able to answer. Your parents estate should have had a will or trust that should have explained how they wanted their real property distributed. If not, then the estate should have gone through probate and a judge would have ordered how the property would be distributed. That order would have directed the County to change title on the property to the person(s) inheriting it.

Nora Shepard | Aug 24, 2019

Adding solar to your home (at this time) will not trigger a reassessment. So your taxes will not increase if it is added.

Francisca Rodriguez | Aug 24, 2018
Micheal Kinney | Aug 24, 2018

As Frank said, you can't negotiate interest itself, it's set the same for all property owners. You can adjust your property value through either reassessment or fee waiver though. Call and they can give me you all the details. Best of luck!
