4 stars because of quality of staff, out of stock of ice, bait, and fire starter for my whole stay, and main camp was crowded and dirty. However, I stayed at site 31R (remote island boat access only). It's a good 30 minute row each way, expect to take a john boat or canoe if you are bringing any gear. As expected no outhouses or electricity. Still had cell service. Do not try to pass by the left side of the island in July unless you have a paddle board even with a shallow draft canoe, we got stuck multiple times. The right hand side of the island has a deep 20 foot or more hole. The rest of the lake is 10-12 feet deep and full of weeds. Ok fishing for bass, pike and tiger musky if trolling, although all are under slot size or small. The camp spot has lots of level ground, a fireplace, and a sandy ramp where you can park maybe a 16 foot v hual or larger flat bottomed boat, although it doesn't get deeper then 2 feet for about 20 feet out. Nice view, no visitors, secluded, tent spot under the stars.

Was a great experience especially with little kids. You dont have much privacy in the main loop of campsites on the water but that's to be expected with a campground. Site 13 is the best, room for kids to run around and grass and directly on the water with no hill so they can wade around and collect shells. Gets windy but again expected when directly on the water, I loved that the bathroom wasn't far off and was in relatively good shape, can et a little dingy but better than an outhouse that's for sure. We loved the playground and can't wait to go back

We have camped at this campground ~ 20 years ago on several occasions. Understanding that the DEC ADK campgrounds are in varying degrees of upgrades I don't expect more than a semi-primitive experience. However, the outright neglect of this campground is truly appalling. The bathhouse bathrooms and showers were never cleaned once while we were there for 5 days (nor was the other bathroom), the toilet paper was finally replenished with one roll per stall and then only put on the back of the toilet. There are 2 showers, the handicap is not usable in my opinion, the shower head leaked and there was standing water onto the floor. There was mold and mildew on the walls and curtains in both showers. There were items left in the beach house that were never claimed nor discarded. The garbage can and sanitary napkin container were not emptied at all while we were there. The parking lot had litter as did the beach area. Our campsite also had litter and I picked up things from the empty site next to us as well. I inquired when we checked in if we could get ice later on and was told there were a few bags but they weren't receiving deliveries for some reason. Most of the time the entrance booth was empty even if you wanted to buy ice, wood or rent boots. I NEVER saw an adult employee here, there were two young men (my guess is less than 20) at the booth and riding around in the cart- but not cleaning or doing anything I could discern. The garbage collection area is a mess with no real way of knowing where the garbage should go or the recycling. I am so sad to see this campground so neglected. I wrote to DEC to express my concerns and hope they follow through with more supervision of staff. We have camped at DEC ADK campgrounds for over 40 years and never encountered the lack of care and run down conditions as we experienced here.

Only site available when booking 4 months ago was on the island. Was told an easy paddle. Not true. I took more than 30 minutes each way. Had to make several trips with gear. You couldn’t go directly to the site because of the stumps and rock to one side of the passage.unless you have a large motor boat don’t book. Also you hear the highway all night long. There is a reason there are no photos. It is awful. Plus said they said no problem bringing babies over in a Canoe Not true. Don’t book these sites. By the way public beach is awful. Nothing like they show . Should have taken pictures but couldn’t wait to get out. Rented a row boat but they don’t tell you that to get to the island you need a trailer to bring to the boat launch area. Oh and there were 2 row boats and they said after we rented to make sure it had a plug. Otherwise it would fill up with water. Robert was very nice and tried to be helpful on the phone . But this place needs serious attention
