This is a nice place to watch amtrak and metrolink trains, and get a bite to eat or walk to the mission nearby. That's about it. There is a petting zoo nearby too but u have to make reservations in advance.

Nice little railway station for Amtrack and Metrolink. Restaurant and ticketing booths available on the boxcar. Just one platform. Nice little place to take pics on a sunny afternoon.

Taking the Train to this spot in Southern California is Spectacular. Eateries 50 feet from the tracks. Mom & Pop shops abound. Ten dollar round trip weekend costs to board the train and if you head to San Diego, you are withing 50 feel of the Ocean Water going south...

You're fine. The only place there are stairs is on the east side of the platform. It's only 4-5 steps and there is also a ramp. The conductors will provide a ramp to assist boarding the trains. Just wait at the East side of the platform in front of the Amtrak station where the Handicap ramp is. That's where the conductor will put the ramp down that will allow an even surface to board the train.

No. The TAP card is only for the Los Angeles Metro System. HOWEVER... Metrolink monthly passes will work as a TAP card on LA and Orange county buses and subways (Red Line, Blue Line, etc.).
No, there is a 10-30 minute delay at union station to allow for boarding of passengers, baggage, and crew change (if needed), as well as those disemarking at union station. You do not change trains. As soon as all activities have been completed, train will continue northbound.

Doubtful but legally possible be ticketed. You can fight it with the Amtrak schedule if it became an issue.
The waiting area with sales office is open from 7am to 3pm seven days a week.
