Not especially happy with this company. I purchased a sterling ice cream serving set from Clars Auction, and HWC was one of the recommended shippers. They ship via FedEx, and I was charged $81 to mail a 4 pound package from CA to GA. According to the enclosed invoice, $56 was for shipping, with the remainder going to labor, supplies, insurance, etc. $56 is nearly triple the rate that FedEx would have charged had I shipped that item myself. Now, I don't blame the employees for that - they're just doing their jobs, and they don't determine the charges - but still, $81 is a bit extreme. My second beef is with the packaging itself. The spoons were in a fitted case, lined with satin, with a handpainted design on the interior lid. By the time they arrived, the spoons had come loose and had been tossed around the case, scratching the paint and dislodging the wooden supports. Ideally, the spoons should have been removed, wrapped, and stuck in the box outside of the case. It wouldn't have added any weight, nor taken up any additional space. This set is well over 100 years old and that satin is fragile! 2 stars since at least it got here. .
