Great place to access the carriage road trails for free (i.e., without paying to get into the park) but also the place to get your park pass. Good free shuttle access to the rest of the park and Bar Harbor. In fact I would say it could often be a better alternative to park here rather than Bar Harbor, particularly if you are doing both Acadia NP and Bar Harbor.

Nice visitors center, lots of parking but that fills up quickly so go early if you're going to use it as home base for biking or hiking the trails. Friendly staff.

Pretty nice place with lots of easily understood info and very helpful Rangers to answer questions. This place does get very busy so highly recommend coming early. Good place to stop for info on hiking as the roads and trailhead locations can be hard to find.

Staff was great and answered all my questions. There are 52 steps to get to the visitors center, so if you have a handicap placard or plate, use the back road to get up there. (There is a sign indicating the direction.) Cute little souvenir shop too.

I believe there is but it's been while since I have been there
Not sure but go on their website and print it out 😀
I bought mine online at the same time i booked my Cadillac mountain pass
You only have to pay if you are going further into the park. If you are only going as far as the visitors center in the beginning, you do not have to pay. There are maps right at that little shelter, you don't even need to go up top to the visitors center. I wouldn't chance going further into the park and hiking or driving around to the sites without the pass though because there's park rangers that drive around, you may get ticketed.
While we were there at the visitor center we did not see any information about the program. You may want to call them.
You can get better souvenirs in Bar Harbor. There is a pretty good sized gift shop at the visitor center (and an even bigger one at Jordon Pond),, but they were out of a lot of things last week, and the variety was not as good as many of the private shops in town.
Don't know have you googled it?
