The Cohen Bray house is a gorgeous place to learn more about the Victorian era in Oakland and the Bay Area. The place is open once a month for guided tours on the fourth Sunday, and it is also possible to book private tours. In any case, check the website for dates and special events. There are many opportunities to volunteer both in the house or the garden, and I loved it so much that after our visit I've been volunteering for over 7 months.

Amazing place. It's all stuff from the time, mostly things that were actually in the house or other houses of the family. The 12-foot arched pocket doors, made from one log of redwood, are gorgeous. The tea was delicious - I hope they come out with a cookbook soon, I'd love to make some of those recipes. Fascinating talk while we ate, too. I want to go back and see the garden in spring, as well. I got some honey from their bees - the hive sits in the garden, among the roses. Fun place to visit, I plan to go back.

I went for the 5th annual Biergarten fundraiser. The beer was good and the back yard was shaded by ancient trees. The tour was given by a Coen/Bray family member and it was was fantastic! The house is beautiful and has all its original features

An amazing journey back to the 19th century as all of the mansion’s original furniture and aesthetics have been left intact! Well worth the adventure into Oakland :)
