I partook in a very beautiful funeral for a dear friend. The grounds were well kept, a beautiful job was done celebrating our fallen Sailor.

My husband had to do a memorial service for a family here. So I just had to come along so I could snap a few shots of the scenery (and then we could eat at Point Loma Seafood afterwards)! My Dad fought in WWII and the Korean War. A survivor of the Bataan Death March and Camp. He was a decorated Lt. Colonel in the Army. Always my hero. But he passed in 2020 at 100yo and there weren't any more spaces open for interment here. It would have been so meaningful. He used to take the family fishing down the hill at the Submarine Base when we were kids. It was pretty fun fishing right from the docks next to the submarines. Anyway, we were able to bury him and my Mom at the Miramar National Cemetery of which has a beauty of it's own. But, Rosecrans will always hold a special place in my heart with warm memories. There are so many foto ops here with the magnificent ocean on both sides of this property and the city scape in the distance. I wish I took more pics from better angles, but I had my hands full with our lil' pup Dolci. I just snapped shots steps away from the roadsides. I'll have to come back and enjoy it more. It's so easy to drive into the various sections with your car to enjoy the view or just sit in peaceful meditation. It's right on the way to Point Loma Lighthouse and it's worth the stop!

A beautiful and well take care of cemetery. From here you have a wonderful view of the city while appreciating the men and women who served and sacrificed in order for us to have it. It's a good place to see on a sunny San Diego day.

On a Smart phone you can go to cem.va.gov click on find a grave
Im not sure but I think only spouses may be interred there.

Fort Rosecrans is considered a closed cemetery. Miramar national cemetery takes all burials. It's on Nobel dr.
You need Too Contact Administrative Staff they can Help you Better.
Yes, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is open to the public and is on base free to visit with an Open gate sunrise to sunset. Cabrillo National Monument on the same access road, which is a National Park, requires a fee to enter but is open to the public as well.
This year there is no program to place roses on the graves at Fort Rosecrans. You are welcome to bring roses with short stems and place them at a gravesite if you would like to.
No
I wish I had an answer to your question. My family met at my nephew's grave site on Memorial Day. We had over 50 people. No one said a word. I'm so sorry about your father. Highest regards
I believe burials are no longer allowed due to capacity limitations.
I believe only minor children and sometimes adult children with disabilities may be buried there. https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftrosecrans.asp
No The burials there are and have been closed for some time. The only internments are cremations and the husband or wife of someone already there.
Mr. Hynd, The National Cemetery at this time is still conducting services for those that have a scheduled service. If you feel the need to reschedule, you may contact the cemetery at 619-553-2084. If you keep your scheduled service time, please check routinely with the cemetery office for any changes that may affect the service for your father.
Only if it was arranged for prior to her passing, and only ashes.
You could ask for info at the cemetery offices, right there ...
Marc Lee is interred in Section U Gravesite 1255. If you need to find a gravesite you can always go to m.va.gov and use the online gravesite locator.
I saw the headstone on billiongraves.com. I will have my wife add a picture to find a grave also for you.
It depends , on the arrangements they usually do not last longer then a hour .
You might start here and call the associated numbers. https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftrosecrans.asp
You need to contact the cemetery directly.
This cemetery is closed to new interment, but you might check the below link for further eligibility. https://www.cem.va.gov/burial_benefits/eligible.asp
Only minor children and sometimes adult children with a disability are eligible: https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftrosecrans.asp
Please call them to verify
You should be. Call them and ask to be sure. Good luck!
Mr. Szklany, unfortunately Fort Rosecrans is full and has no open space for burials either casket or urns. We would ask that you consider Miramar National Cemetery which is 15 miles NE on Nobel Dr at the west side of Miramar MCAS. It isn’t on the base so there is no problem accessing it.
Please call the cemetery office at 619-553-2084 and a representative will be able to answer your question for you.
Here is what the website says: Office Hours: Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed federal holidays except Memorial Day. Visitation Hours: Open 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset. I hope that helps!
Yes, all military cemeteries are. The offices are closed on federal holidays; however the cemetery itself is open from dawn to dusk year round. Source: Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery website.
Yup. 858 - google.
He was my Dad's shipmate and he was a British sailor.
No.
A child to an eligible service member can only be eligible to be buried in a national cemetery if you are unmarried and one of these 3. 1. under 21 years of age 2. 23 and a full - time student 3. become physically or mentally disabled before reaching age 21.
Yes, however flowers and plants are removed weekly.
Wreaths are placed at Fort Rosecrans just like Arlington through a program called wreaths across America. However Fort Rosecrans is still gaining momentum to have every headstone covered. For now they alternate through sections of the cemetery and they are place on a specific day in December usually a week or two after thanksgiving and then they are picked up the weekend after New Years. It would be a daunting task to have them picked up every night and placed again every morning like another person posted. A1000+ volunteers came in 2017 to lay over 10k wreaths. Until Fort Rosecrans gets more people contributing to Wreaths across America for Fort Rosecrans the Live wreaths will rotate placement through out the Cemetery each year
Huh
There is over 77 acres with 116k+ buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery
I know that Ft. Rosecrans is a military cemetery. My grandfather was buried there, and my grandmother was buried there about 30 years later. You would get your most accurate information if you contact the facility directly.
