Some friends of mine in Mission Viejo are new gun owners, and wanted to go shooting. The closest indoor range is On Target, just off the 5 freeway at Avery. I used to shoot there years ago when it first opened, and Chris Endersby owned it. Man they've made a ton of improvements. I think they doubled the space, and added a gun shop. I like the 25 yard ranges, and it's really WELL lit.

There was an egregious lack of respect from the woman at the front desk. She refused to help us sign up for a class. Additionally, she insinuated that she could not access the internet from her functioning computer with open tabs. The extent of her disrespect was blatant, as she left her desk to avoid assisting us.

Got my pistol here which was a brand new CZ p01 compact and then I got to try it out at their range which is on site as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place!

Best time to go shooting is during the week the weekends are a too busy. The remodel and expanded store looks great, more room for training, classes and to sell related items. The staff and trainers are really helpful, patient and knowledgeable!!!

They have an assortment of rentals. The staff should be able to pair you with a good suggestion. Typically novice shooters are required to be accompanied by an experienced shooter or an instructor, so keep that in mind if planning a solo trip.
Yes, pistols of pistol caliber and same of rifle, anything 222 Swift caliber or above is considered 'high power' pistol/rifle and requires you to take their safety briefing to be 'certified'. I think it's $20 and you get a free lane rental card. Free renewal if you keep your old/expired Rifle Permit (no matter how old). Renewal is every 2 years. Every Sunday morning at 9AM promptly. The 'class' is very easy. Don't bring your firearms to the class, they will let you know when to retrieve them from your vehicle. There's a 15 yard shooting qual. at the end. Needs to be hand-sized (I think they're looking for about a 5" group anywhere on the silhouette target- in case your rifle is new and the sights aren't aligned), but you can lean against the booth wall, on the shelf, whatever. Just demonstrate you shoot/handle safely and somewhat accurately.
If you don't bring a gun with you, company policy (aka laywers) will require you to bring another person with you with proper ID (Driver's license, passport, etc.)
There will be an extra fee (even if a member) on the days listed below to do holster draw.
You should definitely call them or stop in and ask them about that.
They can help you out, but I do not think it's an NRA certified class. If certification is what you need please look here. There's usually a class near you. If she's a minor you'll have to attend it with her. https://www.nrainstructors.org/search.aspx
Yes. And Pellet.
Martina is correct. It must be a current and valid Federally issued ID, if you have a passport that is current, that would work in lieu of the expired license until you get it renewed.
Dan is correct, it's about $15 to rent a lane ($5 more if bringing a friend), $10 to rent a firearm, a few for targets, eye and ear protection are free, and you have to buy their ammo when renting. I recommend getting their yearly membership for $300 if you go more than a couple times
9AM. Every Sunday.
They definitely ask for Govt issued ID every time. Presumably DL from other state would be fine. Call ahead of time to be sure. If you wait to end of phone prompts someone will pick up phone as they now have a receptionist.
Yes, but you must bring a friend if you don't bring a gun yourself. Here's the rates, does not include ammo as that varies, but they do sell it: https://ontargetrange.com/standard-rates/
Yes, you can rent weapons and buy ammo there. They have everything you need to shoot at the range.
Yes, hours are listed here. If there's a major holiday on a weekend day you'd be better off calling them: https://ontargetrange.com/directions/
They're real firearms and must be 18 or 21 and up or have a legal guardian present
There are, but by an outside Instructor. Check here for indoor/outdoor defensive classes. I believe the AllSafe Defense company uses On Target for some of their classes like that: https://www.nrainstructors.org/search.aspx
Some, but most are pistol caliber only. What they have on the rental board varies from month to month.
Yeah you should be fine
No. Only some law enforcement are allowed to store firearms there under certain circumstances. They don't want to be responsible for your property, I'm sure. :)
223 counts as a high powered rifle so you will have to pass their rifle card course but you can fire your 22 rifle, 40 and 38
Call them, ask for Charlie or leave a message: https://ontargetrange.com/directions/
They can definitely assist with the transfer and walk you through what's required. I'm not sure about the specific fees involved for the transfer you're asking about, but I know that when I compared their fees on my previous purchases they were on the low end compared to other local FFLs. Hope that helps.
You only need to sign a waiver to use the range. After thay, you pay for your lane, ammo, and gun rental (if you need one).
Tues, Thurs and Fri now (as of 12/2019) from 9AM to 10AM only. Extra fee, even if you're a member.
