Horrible experience! The car smelled of smoke. No one was there to receive the car upon our return. Due to their staffing issues, they did not process the car for an additional 17 hours. I have been on hold for an hour just trying to speak to a billing representative.

I would be happy using Payless if it was not for the fact that they will arbitrarily bill you for fuel charges days after your return a vehicle when the car was returned full. I filled the tank of a car I rented in Phoenix only a few miles from the airport and even pushed more fuel after the pump shut off to make sure it was topped off. Weeks later I see a charge on my corporate card with no explanation. After contacting customer service, they claim the vehicle has sensors that showed there was a gallon less than when I picked the car up even though I have pictures of the fuel gage showing it was full.

Reserved a car for one day, $105. Plans changed. Called 10 days in advance to extend reservation. They quoted $608 to return it Sunday instead of Saturday. RAPACIOUS. I said forget it, cancel everything, and they said it's $50 to cancel. I canceled and got a car on Turo for 1/3 the price in about three minutes. Will never use Payless again.

The same thing happened to me. I got overcharged for my rental and in trying to contact them I was disconnected several times as well. I was told by the attendant that my cost would be the same because they had no economy cars available so I received another car that typically costs more. I was reassured the cost for me would be the same. It wasn't. They charged me $50 more. I still have not been able to get a hold of customer service.
They are. But just a heads up if you make a car reservation they will still give all their cars away. I will never go there again becuase of that. Reservations mean nothing to them.
I've found their customer service to be lacking at best and non-existent at worst.
