Grand Old Soul
This is for the TRAIL. Quite shady which is why I like it especially in the summer. Goes for quite a while to green belt park. Ends in a nice area near Fairview. A bit shabby. The trail I would walk when I was a pothead and sipped brew chilling on a bench. Still cool though.

Growing up in Castro valley and Hayward..1959 - 1982..many memories. DAD Use to load kids in neighborhood..again and we'd paddle the plunge to Caspers or Kaspers hot dogs. I wanted to stop..but good old dad..had to.get our.dogs.

This is a nice indoor pool! I do wish they would have us swim the longer length. But, that would decrease the number of people that can swim there. I appreciate sharing this pool with others!

My only experience has been with the kid and swim lessons. Lessons fill up quick, but the instructors are great at what they do. Both my daughter and I learned how to swim at the same time, although she was in group swim and I was in the adults learning to swim group. Instructors give great direction and pretty much teach the same which is great when you end up with new instructor at the next session. My daughter is so much more confident and comfortable in the water which is exactly what I wanted for her. We have tried two other places for classes and my daughter called them a joke. Her words: “Hayward’s lessons were a bit harder when I got to level 4 with drills and exercises, but at least the teachers were consistent.” Also, the size of the pool allows for so many classes at once!

It is not cold, but it isn't overly warm, either. It is a good temperature for swimming laps.

Go to www.haywardrec.org all the registration info is there. They have classes for 3 year olds monday/wed, tues/Thursday or weekends. You can also stop by hayward plunge and inquire there.
They changed the viewing area. Used to be elevated bleacher type seating. Now its level with the deck.
I would recommend a swim cap if you don't want to get your hair wet. Otherwise you don't need a swim cap.

They still have classes during the winter, but it's not open to the public as they do during the summer time.
