Very nice park. Great play area for kids. Lots of open spaces to sit out on a sunny day or later dog run around. It does have a bathroom but you occasionally have to contend with a homeless person using it as a place to clean up/shower. Plenty of picnic tables to enjoy a bite to eat.

Great park for dog owners, this location also has couple of tennis courts and kids play area with nice views.

The playground at this park is fantastic. Take your kids and let them run wild for 2 hours and they'll cry when it's time to leave because there's more to do!

Cute, comfortable, clean dog run on the south east corner of Lafayette Park. It has water for dogs, good artificial turf (not hard on feet), and garbages.

Does anyone know if this park is currently open?

Yep! Went there yesterday! I think certain parts of it have some closed signs up, but there were plenty of people & dogs there yesterday with no issues.

How come they don't gate this area to have it fully enclosed so that it's safer for dogs, since all the dogs here are off leash?

I asked another dog owner and they said it was probably to ensure that people watch their dogs. Twice I have seen owners completely ignore their dogs so that other people have to ask around when they see a dog poop and no one coming to pick it up for a long time. These dogs could get hurt or choke on something while their owners are completely absorbed talking on the phone and/or reading or playing on their devices. I saw one guy with what looked like homework spread out on a bench and earbuds. His dog was apparently shy and wandering around aimlessly, and came up to him several times and was completely ignored. Since I knew the other humans and which dogs were theirs, I felt bad for his pup. My suspicion was confirmed when the guy finally packed up, called and leashed his dog and left. Can't say for sure why they don't completely enclose, but it does encourage people not to use it like a free doggy daycare, but with no staff to keep dogs safe and encourage the shy ones to socialize.
