I wish I could give less than one star. We are doing a small bathroom remodel. Not relocating anything just a simple remove and replace..most other city's dont even require a permit for this kind of work. However here in the county of LA a permit is required. That is fine, however trying to cordinate these simple inspections has been absolutely a nightmare, no one answers the phone here. You will need to call 20+ time before some one answers. I have spent so many labor hours waiting on inspectors to show and no one shows and no one answers calls. We had a inspection scheduled for Monday yet no one showed. I called in for them to tell me it wasn't on the calendar, then she rescheduled for their next available date Friday..well here we are Friday; I have an employee on site waiting for inspection yet almost 10am no one has called to confirm schedule nor have they answered to confirm. I have now called 23 times with no answer. This is beyond frustrating, I mean they dont even have an online system to schedule. I understand not wanting to hire employees; but if this is what they are doing set up the freaking automated system. Dosent make any sense. I'm so frustrated right now, I've spent more time waiting for inspections then actually working on this job. To top it all off the inspector that did show up was a rookie with no experience..how he is a inspector blows my mind. I've been doing this a long time now and have never delt with a city that was so unorganized. This makes it so challenging in the times we are in to cordinate with homeowners to have an efficient operation. Wish I could give a negative star rating. We will not be taking any further jobs in this district.

Get ready for torture. Strange work hours. Be careful what you ask and whom you deal with, it can cost you a a lot! Talk about one of the hardest city halls to deal with! I needed a simple permit to change out an existing window and they told me that they would issue a permit but if any other conditions exist they would have to fine me! They want to make sure that everything is impossible to accomplish here!

Yes, as long as certain requirement are met. Those requirements are usually easily met... Please call me tomorrow at 714-597-5560
Sometimes you have to park behind the court house sometimes you get lucky and there's a space open
Do not report building safety to report it, but instead speak to regional planning about having second unit if possible. Then go to building and safety and speak with a plan checker and ask what is Building and safety requirements. See if it's something you can afford. Once you have confirmed with both dept hire an architect or engineer to draw your plans so you start the process of legalizing the unit..
