This place is nice as far as shelters go. The interior is very plush and the dog's have their own individual kennels. Unfortunately, the information on the website regarding the two dogs we were looking at was misleading. The male was suppose to be a German Sheppard mix and the female was suppose to be at that location. Emails went back and forth and was told to come down and check out the male and we could drive to Calabasas to check the female out. When we got down there to look at the male we found out he was a pit bull mix.

We adopted our wonderful Captain Price here:) We adore him and feel so lucky to have adopted him and give him a forever home! So thankful that they gave him a chance!

Love this place! I adopted my second kitten from here a few weeks ago! New baby Leonard (formerly known as Morning Dew) and my girl Myrtle (Snow) 3 years ago. Clean facility, the adoption process is easy, and the employees are kind and helpful. So thankful to have found my babies here!

You have to make an appointment as they are only open for visitors every other weekend right now. Having said that, if you are looking to adopt please make an appointment and stop by. I wasnt expecting to adopt that day but I fell in love with two cuties and there you go. In most cases you can take them home the same day. I believe the adoption fee is normally 25 bucks which is amazing but this weekend every cat was only 5 dollars and that includes vaccinations spay and microchip. Please leave a donation for this great place! EDIT... APPOINTMENTS NO LONGER NEEDED

If you just give them a call, they will help you and suggest the shelters and eescue groups that they work with. They collaborate with numerous groups.
We are really sorry to hear you are no longer able to home your beloved family pet. The NKLA Pet Adoption Center is a high-volume pet adoption center and we are not able to take in pets from the public. We work directly with our shelters here in Southern CA to pull dogs and cats from their facilities as part of a collaborative effort to reduce shelter deaths in our state. We invite you to reach out to the LA Animal Services Home-to-Home program: https://www.laanimalservices.com/home-to-home/ This program will give City of Los Angeles residents who can no longer keep their pets the opportunity to find new, loving homes without having to surrender them to the shelter. Pets can go from one home right into another, which means less stress for animals and humans alike. In addition, this offers potential new owners the opportunity to communicate directly with the current owners, providing firsthand information about the animals.
NKLA has a lot of pitbulls! They are an excellent place to go for adoptions.
Can you send pics
No. Please take newspaper donations to your nearest city or county shelter. Search for LA Animal Services.
Not sure how I can help?
Is she potty trained an does she bark

Sorry, we do not offer spay/neuter services to the public. However, you can reach out to SNP LA (snpla.org). They have been hosting clinics at our site. Their next clinic is this Sunday April 11th. -peg
Thank you for reaching out to NKLA and making adoption your first and only option when welcoming a pet into your family. As an animal rescue organization, we work with the local city shelter of Los Angeles to pull dogs and cats from their facilities as part of a collaboration to make no-kill LA (NKLA). While the shelters do see all types of different breeds, they typically get adopted pretty quickly directly from the city shelters. Our priority is on the animals who have no other options. We definitely encourage you to check out a website called petharbor.com which allows you to search for specific breeds from local rescues and shelters. We hope this information helps. Thank you again for choosing adoption. Our mission to end the killing of animals in shelters would not be possible without the support of informed and caring community members like yourself.
We are really sorry to hear you are no longer able to home your beloved family pet. The NKLA Pet Adoption Center is a high-volume pet adoption center and we are not able to take in pets from the public. We are exclusively pulling pets from the six city shelters of Los Angeles Animal Services as we work collaboratively to make Los Angeles a no-kill city. While your home might seem too small for a large-breed dog, there are certainly ways to keep a dog active and stimulated indoors. For some guidance, check out https://www.apartmentguide.com/blog/happy-and-healthy-d. If rehoming is the only option, we do recommend exhausting any and all online resources. A GREAT place to post is 911fosterpets.com for temporary homing and pet-centric Facebook groups like Adoptable Pit Bulls/Bully Breeds Rescues Only. We hope this information helps! Please let us know if there are any other helpful tips we might be able to provide. Thank you again for looking out for your pup's best interest.
Hi Rian, Thank you for contacting NKLA and Best FRiends LA. Our facility is currently only a high volume adoption center and we are unable to take in pets from the general public. We are working with the city shelters to pull pets from their locations only to help make LA a no-kill city. I do recommend you try to reach out to our coalition partners and see if they are able to help rescue. You can view a complete list of our partners here: http://nkla.org/about/coalition-partners. Please be aware that most of the groups are run strictly by volunteers and there might be a delay in response. NKLA coalition member, Kitten Rescue, also has a very helpful online toolkit with all things kitten care. You can check that out here: https://kittenrescue.org/cat-care/ Thank you for caring for the animals. -peg
Sorry I don't know. I'm sorry you can't keep him!😢hopefully you'll be able to find a good home!
They don't take animals from the public, you should look up your nearest city shelter
Look at their website.
You can walk in
You can drop her off at Jefferson park pet Resource center at 3612 11th st in LA. There is a Best Friends cat rescue there. They are there 7 days a week between the hours of 8am to 4pm.
Unfortunately they don't take pets from the public, you'll have to contact your local LAAS shelter
All dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, and up to date on vaccinations before adoption!
There is a fee but it depends on the animal and the age
Yes but i think it's only if you're seriously interested in adoption. Otherwise i know you can volunteer though i dont think the 4 year old could.
There are only dogs and cats available for adoption. However, NKLA doesn't take owner surrendered animals. The West LA animal shelter is nearby and could probably be of more help with that.
Yes, it covers all of those things. Plus medications, the cost of housing, etc. But they do occasionally have specials where they lower the adoption fee.
All their dogs and cats are mixed breeds

NKLA usually pulls animals from their sister faculty, Best Friends LA, up in Mission Hills, as well as from other rescues.
They have names, either from the shelters, rescues, or previous owners, but you are free to change them.
I believe they are open on holidays
Do you still have her?
Brian is correct
You need to call every shelter to see if you find one Good luck I hope and pray you do find one.
They want people to have a minimum volunteering time from 5-6 months. Your age wouldnt be a problem, but your parents would have to be there while you volunteer.
Look up best friends animal society and ask them for advice because they work with NKLA
Choosing an animal companion is such a personal decision that I leave it to a certain amount of chance. Going to the shelter and seeing which of the wonderful choices there seem to sing to you. If you have wide open spaces and a yard then a larger breed would be okay but if you live in an apartment I would suggest a medium sized to a small dog.
They really want to get the dogs adopted. You can look at them in their cages, but unless you are serious about adopting, they normally won't let you play with them. you can volunteer, tho!
I'm not sure about the rules at nkla but most of the times and that's not an issue. Very young puppies and kittens sometimes are restricted because they have not had their vaccines yet. Please call and check to see if they will let you play with them. I highly recommend getting a dog or cat if you can.
NKLA is not a pet store, it is an adoption center. They may have pitbulls but they'll likely be mixed.
NKLA can definitely help you adopt a pit bull puppy! The website is not current right now, so give them a call.
Best to contact them directly. If they don't, ask if they could refer you to somewhere that would offer such service.
No. You can not surrrender animals at NKLA. It is an adoption only facility.
Yes there are both cats and kittens up for adoption at the shelter.
Volunteers under 16 (or it might be 18) must be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer hours.
They did not when I was there. A lot of pitbulls.
Nlka i agree good place
You can not surrender animals at NKLA. This is an adoption only facility.
Matías fernandez..... Dont give false information. Shelters do not have free animals. There are events but normally the animals are NOT free.
No this facility doesnt accept drop offs
Yes! they have cats and dogs of all ages
They do not do intakes, but they can help you find nearby shelters
You can surrender there
Ow good question u should give them a call ibseen some teenagers there tho*
No you can't take strays there they will direct you to the west la animal shelter
Never hurts to ask they are really friendly but I have never seen someone in that age range working there.

Wow, what kind of sick person has two cats for 18 years, presumably, and then just up and decides to stop taking care of them? A PET IS NOT A TOY YOU CAN JUST GET TIRED OF, THEY ARE LIVING SENTIENT BEINGS.
