They won't allow a responsible party to pay the bill! I took my dog in for a dog bite and left him there to recieve treatment. The owner of the other dog (who bit mine) drove to their office and wanted to pay my dogs bill, the office refused him. They made no attempt to call me or authorize anything, just turned him away. Today when I questioned VCA about why they wouldn't allow him to pay the bill, they said " We don't get involved with 3rd parties. You would have needed to say in advance that someone else was allowed to make a payment on behalf of your pet, there have been lawsuits and issues in the past". Given the business that they're in, I would think they would want to allow someone to do the right thing. Perhaps there is a vast legal history of people complaining that someone paying their medical bill for them which I don't know about? For a $760 bill, I think the office could have made a phone call to me to attempt the "verbal authorization " that was needed. That said, they were nice at intake, appear to have treated my dog well and were thorough when presenting treatment options. Just disappointed that on top of caring for an injured pet, they left me with paying the bill when they could have helped, at no cost to them.

Our dog underwent two surgeries here. The first went smoothly and saved our dog's life. The second revealed terminal metastases, and it was handled with gentle grace. On both occasions, VCA gave us a partial refund, because the procedures were less expensive than the estimates. The staff are knowledgeable and kind. Five stars.

We brought a stray cat here to have her scanned. They didn't charge us anything for the scanning so we can find her owner. The staff were very friendly to us, they even gave us a box where we can put Ferrah in since we just carried her inside a basket with a blanket. We didn't get ang other services but their hospitality and kindness were in no doubt deserve a 5-star review.

Our dog Angus had surgery here and overall the surgeons and techs have been amazing. It's been expensive and a little more stressful than we were prepared for, but our experiences have been good at VCA CVS Carlsbad. They are helpful and thorough when answering our questions and are generally really responsive. We've had some experience with the ER also since we've taken Angus here in the past. Our experience was pretty good then too even though he's an anxious 90lb maniac. Some of the staff are less helpful and friendly than others. Sometimes the wait times can be a bit long, but it's also an ER, so we understand. Especially since this ridiculous animal needs to be sedated for each visit. If we feel like it's been a while without any updates, we just check in and they're happy to get us the information we need. Communication between Surgery and ER isn't always great, so we mainly try to stick with those that know his history, which it seems like almost the entire surgery department since he's a frequent flier these days. Surgery's communication seems pretty good, or maybe he's just seen all of them by now! 😆 And even though he's a jerk, I can tell they care about him. Thank you to everyone that's been taking care of our monster. 💕 Also the free cookies in the lobby always make my trip there better.
