JUST GOT HERE FOR FAMILY VATION AND LEAVING-NOT RECOMMEND. This is what happens when you let small crimes go without enforcement. I am visiting here and I can say there are more beggars all over the place, more than any city I have seen in decades and I travel a LOT. We had a so called veteran begging with his sign, and he wanted to attack me for not giving him money. I am a veteran and it sickened me seeing a non-vet claiming veteran status. When he got up and threatened me with attacking me for not giving home money, and closed to within 10 feet, we called the police, I did personally at approximitely 3:45PM today 2-4-19 on Commercial Street in Portland. We left at 4:10PM after no police showed up-apparently we are such low priority or you are undermanned, either way unacceptable. Well done if you want crime-we are leaving your city-this is nowhere where I want my family to visit and we wil be leaving the city and heading home. Folks take notice-this lack of response BREEDS crime and you will reap what you sow. Clean up your city-panhandling all over is unacceptable-esp getting threatened with violence if you do not pay. You should clean up your police department first-lack of response is HORRIBLE to see.
