Questions & Answers

Is the sawmill open to public currently (March of 2022)? If so, what are hours open to visitors?

Kerwin Lumpkins | Mar 22, 2022
Maine Forest and Logging Museum | Mar 22, 2022

Thank you for asking. The grounds are still pretty icy right now. Usually the volunteers don't start opening buidings up until late March to early April. It depends on the condition of the roads. It was reported that a couple of days ago, the road in was mostly glare ice, with some clear spots that were becoming soft. Once the roads are clear and dried out, then the volunteers will be on site and the buildings will be opened for exploring as they get them ready for our events which will be starting up in May. Tuesdays are volunteer workdays, with work on the grounds being done from about 9am to 2pm. Check out our events on our website at: https://www.maineforestandloggingmuseum.org/events

When do you so sleigh rides

Nancy Sprague | Aug 20, 2019
Maine Forest and Logging Museum | Jun 20, 2022

Thank you for asking, Nancy. We do sleigh rides when the conditions are right for it. There has to be enough snow and no ice along the rails and the road in has to be passable. We will announce on our website and on Facebook when we have them planned.

Are dogs welcome?

Chuck Theriault | Aug 20, 2018
Terri Coolong | Aug 20, 2018

Service dogs only are welcome on the property. There are ample walking areas on the nearby Penobscot Experimental Forest. Just continue on past the Visitors Center and there are miles of scenic road that can be walked. (I am a MFLM Board member)

Are dogs allowed on trails

Darlene Noyes | Jun 20, 2022
Maine Forest and Logging Museum | Jun 20, 2022

Thank you for asking. We do not allow dogs--other than registered service animals--on our property. We do that in ensure that all of our guests enjoy their visit. Our policy was put into effect after a guest was bitten by a dog on our property. We also depend on volunteers to maintain the grounds and do not want to add to their work. You may walk your dog along the Government Road--the dirt road that comes in from Route 178.
