Great place for wildlife watching. Part of the Idaho State Birding trail. We saw a porcupine and of course lots of birds. You can hike to a viewing platform at the top of a hill with a decent view of the lake.

Great hiking with awesome views overlooking the lake!!

This is a fun, quick trail that can be used either as a point out and back trail or you could do one of the loop around to return back to the parking lot. The vistas are very interesting, including views of wildlife preserve areas as well as the lake. There wasn't a lot of traffic on it but I can imagine during busy peaks it could feel that way. It was a lot of fun and I would recommend it.

Started @ 10am on a Thursday & only saw 3 different groups of people. The beginning of the upper trail is a moderate incline; however, the lower trail is mostly level. Great views of wetlands. The cons: obstructed lake views from trail and road noise throughout.

I don't think so. I think Blackwell Island public launch is just around the corner and connected to the canal system. Fun to go through the canal to Cougar bay.
