Really cool tourist spot. Definitely worth checking out! Especially cool for kiddos to hear the "thunder" when the waves crash into the little spot just right.

Very busy site. Plan your trip to be at Thunder Hole about 2 hours before high tide. That will be when the effect is greatest. You don't want to see it after high tide. Just google Bar Harbor high tides for today to get the times. This works well as at low tide you will want to walk over to Bar Island from Bar Harbor.

Parking and people are the only thing annoying about this. It was packed. Thunder hole itself was awesome if you can get down there. There are steps down to the hole and rocks are climbable but are very dangerous.

5* more for the surrounding area than Thunder Hole itself! I'd give the attraction itself a 4. It's an easy hike down to the viewpoint, then you've got to wait a few minutes for a good crash - but it definitely lives up to its name! If you arrive at low tide, you'll have tons of rocks and tide pools to climb over in the areas past the main site. Some excellent views of the coastline are visible as you walk out, and you may hear some loud roars from Thunder Hole. It seemed the really good ones occurred every 10-15 minutes, and often had 2-3 in a row.
