Coach Amanda is fantastic. I started with being barely able to bend and unable to lift any weight and am now lifting close to my body weight. She encourages me and gives me the right push to ensure I am my best self. I’m grateful for the opportunity and highly recommend Starting Strength Beaverton.

I’ve had a wonderful experience with Starting Strength Beaverton. I’d been lifting at home in my garage for the past couple of years and over the course of just 2 weeks, Amanda has helped me make some adjustments that greatly improved my mobility and strength. I’m not usually a gym or group fitness kind of person, but this experience has been great — it’s a warm, supportive and positive environment. Try it!

Facing my 60th birthday in 2022 I did a lot of research on the best way to get in shape. The Starting Strength method was (is) exactly what I needed. Fortunately one just opened up here in Beaverton. And WOW - after just 3 weeks I am really convinced I made THE RIGHT decision. My body composition is already starting to transform beyond what I expected at this point. It is still a journey. I have complete trust in Head Coach Amanda, who has deep experience as a strength coach to collegiate athletes. If you thought you could never do something like this, then Starting Strength is the right place for you. If that sounds too much like a sales pitch it is because I have found new confidence in my ability to get strong. The best health care plan is good health. I can't recommend this place, these coaches and the Starting Strength method enough!! Come join me!

Finally. A real gym for people who want to get stronger under the guidance of knowledgeable coaches who care about your form and technique. The coaches, Amanda and Alec, are fantastic and have really helped me correct some bad habits I've developed over the years with just my first few sessions. I love the approach of a micro-gym with dedicated coaches and reserved times. Such a welcome change from the crowded mega-gyms. I think they have an Open House every Saturday morning so you owe it to yourself to check it out if you're finally ready to commit to getting stronger.

Yes, Starting Strength Gym members are committed trainees that train on a set schedule, only missing sessions due to travel, injury, illness, or another unavoidable reason. The process of training differs from exercise because it is planned in advance to achieve a pre-defined outcome. That plan is referred to as programming, and programming needs to be completed on a consistent schedule for it to be effective. Trainees commit to either a M/W/F schedule or a T/Th/Sa - at the same time each day to ensure that there’s adequate time for recovery.
Most everyone can do Starting Strength, or a modified version depending on your specific situation. Our gym is full of people with all physical capabilities from young athletes seeking higher levels of performance to "masters" athletes training to improve their quality of life. We are passionate about help anyone who is looking for strength improvements and is willing to put in the hard work.
The Starting Strength Gym model revolves around small group training sessions to ensure that each trainee gets dedicated coaching and programming. The group format brings the cost of coaching down to make training with a coach three times a week more affordable. Sign up for a timeslot that works best for you. Get a guaranteed space in the gym at your designated training time. Show up, warm up, squat, press, press or bench, and deadlift. Finish by checking in with your coach to plan your next training session.
On day one you will learn to squat, press, and deadlift in line with the Starting Strength model. You’ll establish a strength baseline for each of the lifts. From there, you’ll sign into the digital logbook app and work with your coach to plan your programming for the next training session. For trainees that have been coached by a Starting Strength Coach before, you can join a group training session on day one, based on the schedule you signed up for. You’ll arrive at the gym, change into your lifting shoes, grab a rack, and then you can start your warm up. Let your coach know when you’re ready for your last warm-up and each of your work-sets.
Starting Strength is for everyone. Even if you're detrained, sedentary, and/or unathletic, you have a baseline of strength that can be established and built upon.
For day one, you’ll simply need shorts or pants that don’t impinge your range of motion - so that you can perform a full depth squat. If you wear shorts, wear long socks to cover your shins for the deadlift. We also recommend a 100% cotton t-shirt and hard-soled shoes.
Our membership is a month-to-month service with no long-term contract. This means that we work hard to make sure you are making progress each and every time you come to the gym. It also means that our gym is full of people who are all there to make serious strength gains and to improve their health!
