Staff was extremely rude. The room was not well cleaned, the complimentary shampoos and lotions were all mostly used and covered in the hair and the staff did not offer to give us new bottles when we told them. The only thing that wasn't terrible was the bed. Extremely bad experience, would not give it a second chance.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn Monticello in Charlottesville, VA on April 28 & 29, 2022. When we checked in there was a sign saying that about 30-40 rooms were without hot water. Our room was not one of those rooms. As part of the checkin we had to sign a form that said we would not smoke in the room, and if we did, Comfort Inn could evict us and charge us a penalty. Our room was about as far away from the front desk as you could get, and as soon as we opened the door we were overwhelmed by a strong odor of stale cigarettes. We went back to the front desk to complain and told them we could not stay in that room. So they offered us one of the rooms with no hot water and said they would only charge half price. We decided that was better than the cigarette smell. The water wasn’t completely cold, you could soap up and briefly turn on the barely warm water to rinse off. The next day when we got back to the hotel the sign warning about the lack of hot water was gone. We tried the water in our room and it seemed a little better. The next morning I was able to take a short shower with warm, but certainly not hot water. By the time my wife got in the shower, there was no hot water at all. When we checked out they only gave us one day at half price, even though the hot water problem still existed. The clerks reply was “I’ll tell maintenance.” With the stinky cigarette room and the lack of hot water, we were less than impressed.

Worst hotel experience ever. 1. Room wasn't ready even though we didn't arrive until 3 hours after check in time. We had to wait 30 min in the lobby before our room was ready. 2. No hot water the entire time we were guests (2 nights, we booked 3 but got frustrated and left after night #2). I feel like the hotel staff deliberately lied to us about the hot water issue. We notified the hotel staff on night #1 and were told they didn't know anything about there being no hot water but that it was probably just because the hotel was full. Next morning still not hot water. This time the front desk person mentioned that they were having someone come in to look at it. That night still no hot water. This time we were told that they didn't know what was happening but would look into it. Next morning, still no hot water, they said that the maintenance guy was working on it. When we returned that evening, there was still no hot water and this time we were given a printed handout stating that the issue would not be fixed until the following Monday. This was Friday. We were scheduled to check out the next morning. The front desk person said that they were notifying new guests about the issue but that we could not get a refund because it was too late in the day!. At that point we just left and paid for another hotel. They wouldn't even print us out a receipt showing that we had checked out. Then, reading other reviews we found out that the hot water issue has been going on for months with numerous other guests having similar experiences. Bottom line. Never stay here! It was a terrible experience.

It's a place to put your head down. One of our rooms smelled like smoke, and no hot water in the other. Employees were very nice and breakfast was really good.
