It’s an interesting place and most important a great location. Very good drive and hike around. The site tells the story of a mining place that grew like anything, created boomtown and then the closure due to WWII. Good details around but lots of damaged buildings and ruins as well, which could be restored at the least for demonstration.

The area is beautiful and the facts interesting. However, it has a lot of tourist potential that is not been used. The drive to get there is wonderful, so enjoy the journey and be open about the destination!!

Some very interesting historical things to see here. Love seeing how things were done in the past. Lots to see and explore here. Great place to bring visitors and kids. Good place for photos.

We stumbled upon this gem after heading up to Hatcher Pass. We weren't really sure what it was our what we'd be doing, but we paid the $5 admission anyway just to find out. What a good gamble that ended up being. We spent like 2-3 hours walking/hiking around with the kids and checking out the historical buildings and structures. The kids loved it too! There are some amazing photographic views from up top at the water tunnel.

Yes. You are free to hike around. It don't really get dark early in the summer. Last time we walk around summit lake and Hatchers pass it was 11pm. They close at 6pm but there is a parking area to park and sleep.

We went in July 2017. They had tours then. We paid for the tour, but we ended up just walking ahead. The tour guide was very slow. We had to wait for a significant time to enter a building (a handful at a time). We were told that if we left the tour, we could not rejoin. There are plenty of explanatory signs. They were enough for us.
