It's a small historic place. It has been turned into a museum. The Claims are that it's haunted. I was there during the day too lots of pictures. Did catch anything paranormal. It does have cool antique things on display.

Great nighttime tour experience! Our guide Wilhelm was giving his last tour ever! He did a great job telling the history of the house and the family! He was funny, knowledgeable, and very friendly! We had ac great time experiencing our first haunted house! Thanks for the great experience! 🕯

Beautiful old home to tour with so many artifacts and things to look at. It was a self guided tour, but Bullit gave us a quick intro and he was absolutely wonderful. All the employees were friendly and fun! Definitely come check this place out if you're in town.

Nothing really special. Paid 25$ for an adult and a child to walk around a small old house with some old artifacts. Doesn’t explain how this house is haunted but has a little bit of cool history. Waste of time and it only has 4 small rooms to look about.

(CONT’D)... could not shake the feeling that a presence had FOLLOWED us?! Why it would or could, I had and have no idea. We continued on our trip, to Disneyland. I hated staying in the next hotel we went to. I felt the spookiness of that house still, IN that hotel room. Fast-forward and we get home from our trip. Photos are developed. There is a shiny head-shape and shoulders in the first photo I mentioned, behind me and my sister but closer to me and headed her direction. Then a classic, pearly-white and considerably more obvious old lady ghost in a frilly white dress, in the rocking chair. And orbs all over the place in that spooky hotel room, as well as in a few pictures continuing a few days after leaving Whaley. The end part of the film had nothing odd in them.
You just got to keep an open mind I went last year and I went this year and both times my wife had some feeling that some one was touching her it's usually on the second floor on the room they call the theater I recommend you going is very fun hopefully you will like it I did that's for sure San Diego it is a beautiful place I'm from LA to is different Update we are going on my birthday on October the 13 2018 It's more run like a business now now you have different people telling you about the incident on the house before was just one Tourist guide that takes you out around it's still good
They allow investigations at the Whaley House after hours for $75 per person. It is haunted... But the Ghost Adventures Team didn't catch anything stupendous when they investigated it.
I was there over the weekend with an out of town relative because it said it was open. Same thing. Lots of ppl who were there because it says it's open. Can the website or Google maps update to show it's closed so ppl can plan accordingly?
It could be haunted due to the executions that took place on the property
I didn't experience anything weird. This house is a little bit creepy but not scary.
I'm not sure what you mean by spiritual history. Is there a history of the location being haunted? Yes. Was the location a church or other place of worship? No, not to my recollection. The location was a little bit of a hub of old San Diego. Before the house was built, it was the location of the gallows where public hangings happened. After the Whaley family built the house, it became somewhat of a main building for old San Diego. It had the Whaley's general store and the courthouse, as well as a short-lived theater. If your question pertains to The Whaley House being haunted by spirits, many people do think it is. However, it is a building with a rich history that also was the private family home of a prominent family of Old Town San Diego. Whether or not it is haunted, it is worth the trip and tour. The tour is great and the docents have a ton of information. The tour isn't very expensive and the Whaley House is a wonderful historical location that could use the support.
Yes the house has been investigated before. You should tour the site for more information! It's a great spot and you can't describe it you have to be there.
few reasons, a hanging where the house was later built, deaths on the property
According to the website, it is open today from 10 AM to midnight.
You can pay for tickets and explore yourself, however there are several tour per hour you can also join if you are more interested about the history of the house as well.
It's open on weekends. I thinks the 10.00 adult. 8.00 seniors
Yes! Year round but, it's always better on Halloween time! Fun if you are into ghostly stuff!
A lot of deaths in the area. Old gallows nearby. Also old cemetary very close. Daughter of whaleys had many problems. Lots of sadness hamgs there still
I can't give you a terrifying experience, but it is definitely worth a visit the docents are extremely knowledgeable and do have some story's of encounters if you ask them to tell you about them. The history of the building and it's roles in San Diego politics is extremely interesting.
The locals i spoke to, as well as the tour guide we had, stated that women recently have a tendency to feel things and you're more likely to pick up activity with flash photography. The upstairs is very dense and active.
From what I know a child died from a sickness one of the daughters killed (shot herself) herself because her marriage failed and a man was hung on the property for stealing a boat before the house was built there.
He might be able to go in the courthouse but maybe not the house. It's pretty small in there.
This place has a "Feeling" if you know what I mean. I was in the dining area talking to one of the docents, there was a mirror behind the Docent and to the left. I took a picture with my phone. When my wife and I reviewed the photos there was an image of a person in the mirror that we can't identify. The Docent and I were the only 2 people in the room. Well so we thought... So things can happen and be seen even in the daytime. Great place to visit 👍
They close it in the summer, no tours
Probably not because they are doing construction i think
I tried visiting on Sat, July 24th 2021. Google said they were open. Nope, the museum was closed. I spoke to a merchant across the street. She shared that the Whaley House has recently changed management and is one of the last museums in the area to still be closed. Plenty of other historical sites to visit in Old Town. Hope this helps.
I am not sure, i have only seen this in a film
The house wasn't open to walk through but the grounds are open.
For Halloween 2020, the Whaley House is offering a wonderful virtual tour of the Whaley House in a way no one has ever experienced the museum before, as well as a Whaley House Historian Q&A. These virtual events can be viewed on any device by the whole family for the price of a single regular adult admission and a great, unique way to experience the Whaley House! Due to covid, the Whaley House museum is closed indefinitely per the recorded message on our answering machine. For the most up to date information, please visit our website at whaleyhouse.org where you can learn about our virtual events - just click on the photo of the skull at the right of the screen.
Yes you can
Always check the actual business websites for up to date information. Like most museums the Whaley House is closed due to covid. They DO have a very cool virtual Halloween tour your whole family can enjoy for less than the cost of a single guided evening tour ticket, and you won't have to deal with standing in line all night or crowds. Here's the October 2020 Whaley House offerings: http://whaleyhouse.org/halloween2020.htm
Daughter Violet died inside the house after gun shot wound to her chest.
Nope
Just like how you asked how can you share. That simple
Hi, check the link below: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Crosthwaite
You may certainly make any reports you wish to, the docents are very nice and you can also contact their office or through their website. Most docents have had experiences they are more than happy to share, indeed excited to do do. If a docent does not report having had an experience, please appreciate their honesty. It is probably a newer docent. Once you've worked there long enough, you're bound to have an experience, and it's generally when you least expect it.
Why would you shout? They arent there to perform for you. We got a performance in the theater. Orbs on stage. Worker told us you got a show lol. Have felt things there. Can't breathe right in the store room. Its cheap and fun. More active at night. Shouting disturbs others. Wouldn't recommend doing that. Updated review.. They are performing could be residual or happy for audience but yelling at them isn't the right thing. Respect them they were alive once. Its not a paid performance your beck and call
Maybe if you take the private after hour tour? But not on the regular tour.
Daytime Tours are $10 Adults and $8 Seniors (55+), Active Duty Military, & Children (ages 6-12). Nighttime Tours are $13 per person.
The house portion was built in 1857 however there is an adjoining portion of the building that was built earlier and used as a courtroom. The two buildings were later joined as one and used in a number of ways over time. Examples of this is as a store, etc.
I don't know. But definitely very interesting. Along with the history.
The cemetery and tree outside of Whaley mansion
I think you can only bring service animals that have vests... you can always call them
I concur with Janet.
Gift shop next door sells tickets and merchandise
They dont specify you would need to ask the tour guides, they only say no filming or audio recording
We did the last tour on a Saturday night with all the questions people had it lasted about 45 mins. They hurd you through the house pretty quickly. You can hang out on the 1st floor hall and take pictures but you still a little rushed because they want to go home. We explored the grounds for a hour after they closed. There's a little cemetary down the road that's intresting to. It's open all night
There are tours. No walking in to look around. Theres a little house to the south of the Whaley House next door. Walk in there to buy tickets.
You have to go to the gift shop right next store and buy tickets for the guided tour- as you will not be able to go in without tickets. Tours run every 15 min and cost $13 each a few months ago when i went.
I enjoyed it. I could feel a presence in the kids room. They don't allow video to be taken so I won't confirm if I did or didn't see anything. ;*) They have a cute shop with Edgar Allan Poe coffee and other books. Also the cemetery is down the street. U must see this place!
Sweet! Thank you, because I was wondering if I could do both the day and night tour.
It is convinced considered a very haunted house. But you should check it out for yourself and see if you feel it.
Check your background you might be try to looks up some information
