On a trip from Nebraska and wanted to hit a quick 9 somewhere due to time constraints with work. The 9 hole course is taken care of well. The course is all primarily straightaways so pretty good for beginners. The good views are on the 18 hole course. Had a pretty good time.

I love this place but it has turned into a nightmare. 6-7 hour rounds of golf and No course Marshall make pace of play awful. Pay some staff and get a Marshall!!!

The golf course itself was decently maintained, but the guy working behind the counter was snarky and rude. My girlfriend and I just wanted to golf but the dude sniped at me multiple times and "moved" my tee time about twenty minutes later because I had the audacity to show up a mere ten minutes before my original tee time. I went to the bathroom after picking up my rental clubs because I figured I now had twenty more minutes, and then he called my name to go golf at my original tee time. When I asked him if he had called my name for my original tee time, he growled at me again. Bad service by a surly jerk.

Both courses (9 and 18) are well maintained and offer their own challenges. The 18 hole is a great deal for the course, and most of that time you forget you’re playing in a city due to the course layout. It’s a lot of fun, and has a great variety of holes. The clubhouse is pretty basic, but the staff is professional and friendly. There’s a putting green and a driving range as well. It looks like there’s a little bar there as well, although I’ve never gone. The only reason I’m giving 4/5 is the course needs to work harder to keep the rate of play up. Took us 3 hours to play the front nine last time we were there, and we were waiting anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes each hole to hit. In the end, if you’ve got the patience, it’s a course worth playing. I’ll certainly come back.

Yes you can
I am not sure I was on site for work related reasons you will have to call. Very beautiful greens and a very nice club house.
There is no dress code. Dress according to what you plan to do and for how long.
Yes. Download the San Diego golf app and there is a non resident tab on the booking page for balboa
I don't think so. They do have rentals though. Near by are two military golf courses with military rates. Sea-n-Air on Coronado and Admiral Baker in Mission Valley. Rates are comparable.
Brian, go to GolfNow.com and select San Diego as your location. You will see price and availability for many courses. Go to Geeenskeeper.org and select Southern California them scroll down to San Diego County to see assessments of courses, pictures, and aeration status.
Yes there are and you'll need it for heart attack hill. Hole 18. I thought I was gonna die lol in 95 degree weather
Better to call and check directly, so you can get up to date rates. Great course. Good luck.
Recommend to get ahold of the staff or management to see if they offer that feature.
Yes
Early. I'm going to say around 7 when the pro shop opens.
There are no ponds
Yes, and it is next to Pershing Drive. You arrive at Golden Hill Rec Center and continue down the street to the clubhouse.
It depends on the time and which field. There is one with 9 holes and another with 18. more or less $ 40 usually. And yes, you can rent clubs.
$ 40 mon-free. $ 50 weekends
