Went there for a bag of potting soil. Came away with a moss trellis for my ivy, a tiny fern, a hanger for my spider plant, and a free bag of soil in addition to the one I bought because there was a promotion just for me after I complained about nobody helping an old lady load it into my car. Really nice "kids" running the place on a Sunday afternoon. For plant lovers, Fancy Plants is stimulation overload.

I love this place for their friendly and knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices compared to other stores in the area. The selection is a bit limited but what they do have is all high quality. Also it’s nice to be able to shop semi-local. I’m not clear on the details but Montana Ace is somehow distinct but affiliated with Ace in general, and the Montana Ace stores (almost all in Missoula) are around 30% employee owned. At least that’s what I heard, I could be wrong about that. I can’t stand that this listing still uses their old name, even though they’ve been Montana Ace | The Garden Place for years now. I took pictures of every single sign showing the correct name but Google refuses my attempt to edit the name. I think probably because they never bothered to update their website, which isn’t even accessible anymore. 🤷🏻‍♂️

All the employees were extremely helpful! I wanted a simple raised bed garden and they gave great recommendations, helped me get exactly what I needed, made sure I was getting a good deal, and even helped load and secure everything into my small SUV. Highly recommend!
