Huge! So much room for the pups to run. Benches and bathrooms for the humans. Water fountains for the pups and even some extra bowls. Excited about the renovations being done. There is a lot of dirt, my only complaint.

Good dog park. Not much of an outside trail for walking, but there are a couple benches to enjoy a view of golf park and beyond. We enjoyed watching dogs play while resting and continuing our walk.

Nice areas for shade for people, chairs, benches and tables for people to relax at. Water bowls in the park for dogs along with several water fountains for water refills. Bathrooms for men & women. Ample amounts of parking. Beautiful surrounding views of the golf course close by. By far one of our top favorite parks. Wear close toed shoes if you don't like dusty feet. 😊👌😉

This park definitely has the most dogs I have ever seen in one place! Lots of space to roam though, with side trails to other areas, and an agility zone to practice some jumps with your pup. It is not fenced in, so make sure your dog has good recall or stays on a leash

Keep small kids close and be aware. When the park is busy, dogs of all sizes are very active. I don't think large dogs chasing each other and banging into small children at high speed would be a good experience for the kids. Times when there aren't many dogs, like mornings, would be best.
As others have said, it is not closed in. If you have a dog who is not fully trained on recall, I suggest training them up before bringing them here. There is a canyon on the opposite side of the park where there is all sorts of wildlife which leaves a good risk for dogs with a high prey drive to run off or get lost. If you need a good enclosed Park while you are in the process of training your dog, check out Nate's Point dog park
Yes but only between 7:30am and 9pm weekdays and 9am and 9pm weekends. Rangers will sometimes patrol the park to enforce the off-leash hours, especially on the weekend. Also note that you have to keep your dog on a leash between the street and the park fence. Police will occasionally just hang out at the entrance to the park waiting to ticket people for not doing that.
I doubt it
I don't think it's a good idea. It's an extremely active dog park that is literally for dogs off leash to play and run around. If you want to hang out and BBQ I suggest you visit other areas of Balboa Park
