The staff, selection, and atmosphere are awesome. The patrons, not so much. When you're in a library, please shut up and stay off the phone. That, or don't visit the library because people are actually reading. Great library, just wish we could do something about the visitors.

You think is just a small town library but that would be a mistake. This town/county take great pride in their libraries. The outside is as welcoming as the inside. Have areas outside to sit and enjoy the sunshine and most times I have been by there doesn't seem to be too many open parking spaces. Also Newport has a local bus that stops pretty close to it. People who utilize their library are not only seniors but I see alot of children. They take great care of the inside and when first walk in can see the care they have in making everyone feel welcome The library has many different presentations and programs for students, small children and adults. The staff is very helpful and pleasant. They all are interested in what they can improve on and are always asking for recommendations/ideas on what you would like to see happen there. As a family we did move around a bit and first thing that was done when arrive at a new town was mother taking all of us to get our library card. In our house if we said was bored or not sure what we wanted to do it was always answered by my mother with "get a book" and I can say all 6 of us are avid readers. There is just something about a library when you 1st walk in that gets you more excited than you were previously. The potential of being anyone and going anywhere in the world is intoxicating. I believe that if children are introduced to books early in life that they will be able to fulfill their dreams and always be excited for their next adventure and all it takes is the simple task of opening a book. My husband teases me about how many books I have and once asked me if I was building my own library and I replied "you betcha." I could go on for pages about this library and anyone would be very pleased at the layout of this facility and the amount of information available to all of us.

Since moving to Newport, OR the Newport library has been like my second home. The library is small but the services offered are on par or better than the library I used to frequent in Los Angeles. The hours are great, and staff I've encountered are friendly and helpful. Setting up a library card was painless. They have a nice and surprisingly meaty DVD section, my only recommendation would be to perhaps separate the films by genre. (Very helpful to go straight to a section with comedies or foreign films, etc, instead of wading through the whole collection.) WIfi is fast, and generally there are tables to sit at and patrons are polite and friendly. Today, I requested a study room to practice language learning and it was clean and quiet. It's a good place for self study, but at times it can get noisy (in the main study area downstairs) because of the open air children's area. But I can't fault the children for their enthusiasm, from what I've seen the staff did a good job with setting that area up. :-) Overall, this is a great little library and if i had more time I would definitely do volunteer hours here.

Very helpful and courteous staff. Plus, they don't bother you if you spend the entire day there reading, relaxing and doing school work. Great WiFi, Charging station, electrical outlets everywhere. Magnificent collection of books, movies and periodicals. Plus a great Jazz cd collection!

It's neat the library is doing a baby sign language at 10:30AM for half an hour every Monday.
