Father Joe's Villages is within the grime district where a street-facing sign at the place implies the normativity here of genital exposure, public urination, public defecation and drug use of any description. Commercial Street, within which a Trolley runs, is lined with tents and households, which like restaurants in San Diego, stretch all over the pedestrian right of way. Some people here bellow and appear to be angry, but in truth, they seem more bored and miserable than anything. It'd be nice if the city were to provide bathrooms. It does pass by a couple times a week to pick up household garbage. This is socially, in terms of the "traditional" norms, practices and collective dreams, a neighborhood somewhat different than you'll find around Nobel Drive, but this is a migratory people, always spreading their culture like Mormon missionaries.

I would like to say that father Joe's have really grown threw out the years. It is amazing what could come from those that are willing to help those in need. I am also in father's Joe's Shelter Golden Hall. I have to say that I am very thankful for having an opportunity to be part of the family. I thank those that go above and beyond for the community and those families that are in need. Thank you

This is not an actual review. I have been homeless with my son who is 9 years old out here in San Diego California. Every time I inquire about getting a place for us to stay there are different reasons such as they're not accepting anyone because of covid or the only accepted men at certain places. Can anyone answer my question as in where can me and my son go for the weekend begin to try to get on our feet again?

It's clean and has a responsible staff they help you as much as possible. These are three meals a day. They're a lot of security 24 hours a day.

My brother is homeless in San Diego and has physical issues that cause him to barely walk. He needs a place to sleep at night out of the cold from now, 01/17/2019, until Feb 1st. Can he come there today and get a place to keep out of the cold?

Andy Martinez | Aug 18, 2019
Father Joe's Villages | Aug 18, 2019

Hi Andy, If he is looking for immediate emergency shelter, please call 2-1-1 to learn about the shelter resources available to him. Unfortunately, Father Joe’s Villages’ shelter and housing programs are almost always full and have a wait list. However, we do offer an Inclement Weather Shelter on nights with over a 40% chance of rain and weather under 50 degrees. Ask him to check in with our Day Center (299 17th St.) to learn more. He also can still be added to the wait list for emergency shelter and/or temporary housing or to apply for a match with a permanent housing resource. Again, please ask him to talk to our staff at the Day Center. LOCATION: 299 17th St., San Diego, CA 92101. GENERAL HOURS: Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday – Sunday, 6:00 am – 2:00 pm. CONTACT: (619) 230-7390 or call 2-1-1 for information on other resources.

Father Joe's Villages | Aug 18, 2019

Hi Lisa, You can send your mail to the San Diego Day Center (299 17th St, San Diego, CA 92101) which is a Father Joe's Villages' facility. If that's not possible, we always hold mail for 14 days after arrival. If you have any additional questions, our Day Center staff would be happy to answer them at (619) 230-7390 or at the front desk of the Day Center. Mail pick-up hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 2:45 pm and Saturday – Sunday, 7:30 am – 12:15 pm. More information can be found at www.neighbor.org/get-help.
