After a mental health crisis and attempt on her life, we took our teen child first to the Emergency Room at Emanuel/Randal Children's Hospital (stellar service). After our child was released with a safety plan, we were referred to Margaret Mahlik for counseling services. While I understand it takes time to establish a trusting, therapeutic relationship, our child was more despondent after the session. When our kid verbalized to Ms. Mahlik her fear that she'd always feel empty and depressed, the counselor "explained" that our daughter is "naturally preoccupied with death" because she is a Pisces. This isn't what you tell a suicidal teen. It took weeks to get her back to a better place (still a process) and she had a hard time reconciling that some adults, even some counselors, say some hare-brained things. To dismiss a client's dark, destructive impulses as astrological traits is flippant at best and unethical at worst.
