JSE Labs has always been my go-to for testing materials to make sure they are safe to work with or accepted by the dump. They are awesome, and you always get what you need from them. Thank you.

Staff was friendly and walked me through the entire process. Pricing was fair, needed asbestos testing within three business days and cost was $49. Convenient location in Milwaukie with extended hours for the 9 to 5ers.

Testing for asbestos is rather easy. All we need is a sample of the material in question. We then take a look at it under a microscope using polarized light. This method, EPA 600, is how we can see the asbestos.
Costs to test for asbestos is determined by the Turn-Around-Time. We offer express rush services in addition to our regular turn-around-time. Please call for a quote!

Great Question! At JSE, we are accredited to test for asbestos in bulk building materials. We don't test for asbestos in water but there are labs that have the TEM (transmission electron microscope) to do so. A test runs between $200 to $250. A typical turnaround time for a result is 5 to 10 business days. The lab requires 1 liter of water that they must receive within 48 hours of collection. If not received in that window from draw to delivery, then the lab must ozonate the sample which costs another $50. The water can either be first draw, which is right when you turn on the faucet, or have been running through the pipe for awhile. Either way is fine. The EPA's maximum contaminant level (MCL) is 7 million fibers per liter (MFL). This only includes fibers that are greater than 10 micrometers in length. For a directory of accredited asbestos labs near you, please refer to the following link: https://www-s.nist.gov/niws/index.cfm?event=directory.results.
