Went here on 4th of July weekend - drunk doorman decided to put his hands on me (because I walked outside with a Coke bottle?) and threaten to hurt me and my girlfriend. He whispered to me about how he would beat me up with an insane amount of cursing. His breath smelled like vodka. I didn’t want to make a scene on my girlfriend’s first trip to San Diego, so I didn’t say anything but wanted to post here. Choose another bar!

Great spot! Cool atmosphere! Great drinks and bartenders! Live music is excellent as well. I would love to go here everyday if I could.

My birthday celebration was almost ruined by the doorman/security person at Prohibition. On Thursday, May 19th we booked a stay in the Gaslamp District. After starting off a great night with happy hour visits to several establishments like Café Sevilla and Latitude and then a nice dinner at Union Kitchen & Tap, we stopped by Prohibition for after dinner drinks at around 10:30 PM and that is when the evening took a sour turn. My husband attempted to make small talk with the person at the front (again not sure if he was the doorman, security or host but I highly doubt that he was an owner or manager by his actions). I had a drink in a disposable cup which he informed me that I couldn’t take in. No problem at all. I asked him where I should place the cup as I am not one to litter. He then announced out of the blue that “he didn’t like our energy”. Excuse me? We are over 40 and not confrontational at all. I was truly taken aback and it really almost ruined my evening. The owners should check this guy. I read reviews after the fact which mentioned how great the bartenders and staff are inside and that the atmosphere is chill. This is not the kind of guy you want out front. There are too many other places to go without having a ding-dong on a power trip chase away your customers. Luckily, we moved on next door to a welcoming establishment with a great team out front. I’m glad we took our money elsewhere. And of course we told friends and family who live in the area about this terrible experience.
