Great rent prices, dog friendly, maintenance staff has been amazing keeping the place clean, lots of updates recently. Repairs are quick and the management in the office is super friendly and helpful. Cant beat it for being right on the park blocks, farmers market, river and transit.

This was my personal experience (not good at all). If you are considering moving into an Essex House apartment, take the time to read this review. I wish I had seen a review like this before I moved in. The only 2 advantages this place has are the convenient location and nice staff (all other downtown apartments have that). The biggest problem is that this is one of the few low-rise residential buildings in the area and it’s not suited for the level of noise you will experience there every day. I mean it, you thought there is bound to be a lot of noise in the downtown, but it’s more than I thought there would be for sure. NOISE: When your neighbors use their washer/dryer, you will hear it! When they take shower of close their kitchen drawers, you will hear it, when they talk loudly in the apartment above, you will hear it. Our neighbors watched TV very loudly and I could hear the base every day all day for a month after I had moved in. There are DAILY construction noises coming from inside the building because they are constantly renovating something: sawing, screeching, elevator going up and down, drilling, hammer-like noises - you will hear them every day. If you work from home, this will be a very uncomfortable process. There are so many outside noises that I consider not normal for a “supposedly” residential area (outside of traffic and protests:): 3 parking lots being pressure-washed weekly for at least 1 hour (9-11pm on Sundays for one of them), Twice a week - paper shredding truck at WF, Pressure washing the sidewalks every day, Blowing leaves every day (Wells Fargo, Essex House maintenance) all the way through January People playing drums for over 2 hours in the park in the summer Idling delivery trucks for Wells Fargo BUILDING ACCESS: They use Latch app and they market it as a great software to access the building. It’s not. It logs out randomly, does not unlock the doors for you, takes forever to work. We asked for a fob but they said they only give them to elderly people. MAINTENANCE: Maintenance requests take forever to get processed - I had to call maintenance person every day to check on requests (took over 2 weeks to replace broken dryer). In the online portal tenants say their requests take forever too, and there is no follow up. Recycle trash cans on the floor are overflowing, there is never enough space for recycle trash and it piles up regularly. INSIDE THE APARTMENT: Condensation building on windows - had to keep the window slightly open and have to basically heat the outside with our heater in wintertime. No air circulation inside: stuffy, we had to open the balcony and let cold air in to get some fresh air. The water heater is really small and if you have long hair or have 2 people wanting to take shower one right after the other, be prepared to use cold water because the hot water runs out fast.

My husband and I moved here in December. We have never been happier in an apartment! Our apartment is perfect! It’s in such a great location and the neighbors here are all so friendly! My favorite part would have to be the staff! Amber is literally my favorite person! She was so helpful and accommodating. She adds a lovely touch of personality to something that can usually be draining or defeating (looking for a place to live). She puts so much thought and effort into planning and organizing events. I know I can always go to her if I have questions or concerns! Amber has helped me the most, but I have never been disappointed when working with Andrew, Ryan or Charles! I know there are a few more staff members that I haven’t gotten to work with yet, but that’s because things are going so well, I rarely have to go to the office, which is a win when renting an apartment. Michele, the maintenance woman, is a total badass! Every time we have an issue, she is right there to help, and also educate! I absolutely love this place and I am happy to call it my home!

I've lived at Essex House for nearly three years and I can say without a doubt the staff here are the best. They are extremely accommodating and are willing to help to the best of their abilities and frequently go the (unexpected) extra mile. The apartment building and facilities are kept in great condition and any problems are handled quickly and with full communication to the tenants. Honestly couldn't ask for a better place to live and a staff/team to work with. Highly recommend if you are in the market for a place to live in downtown Portland.

If you go to their website then click "lease online", it will take you to a list of their floor plans. Click the availability button for a floorplan to see units available for that floorplan. Don't be alarmed by the price ranges listed. The price range listed for each unit is a reflection of what your rent could be depending on how many months you commit to. If you're willing to be flexible about how many months you're committing to you'll get the minimum rent in the price range.
