The Shenandoah Valley, where Luray is located, occasionally has severe winter weather. They can get storms that drop several inches of snow. However, it doesn't happen frequently, occurring maybe 3 to 4 times in a winter.
Last year it was a mild winter. WV had all the snow. Coming from Florida just swing by the ski resorts if you want snow on your way. It's another world up there.
Probably not if you're not used to snow.
Doesn't snow at this time of the year. But it does get very cold at night. Was a light cover of snow on my car overnight when i visited towards the end of November 2017. You'll have to go a bit further from luray to see snow - Washington.
It should be! Plenty of main roads
It stays pretty cold during the winter season, allowing for ski slopes top stay open with manufactured snow, but natural snow is very random. They clean roads fast when it does snow, but when it's icy driving is pretty dangerous up here.
Great! We do plan to use Interstates all the way except right at Luray. Also, any nearby worth seeing in winter with young kids (6-10 yrs) besides DC? Thanks much!
