I believe, also, that dogs, even mellow ones, have behavior, or even a scent that can disturb & stress wildlife. It's just natural. There are so many other places dogs are allowed, I don't believe sanctuaries not allowing dogs are an issue. Also, it's too difficult to trust owners to always clean up poop. Even spraying dog urine can be distressing to some creatures & can damage or kill plants. Wild animals have more natural food sources, thus less environmentally safer urine & feces. The motto is leave the area as you found it, or better. Hope this helps.
Because of irresponsible dog owners ruining it for the responsible ones.
There are many places around Mohawk park that one CAN take dogs. Zoo and Oxley Center park do not. The park around Oxley is known for ticks and chiggers and would not want to expose my animals.
All ways been that way. This is a children's field trip, bird watching area for nature enthusiasts. The chipmunks and other wild animals like the deer that walk right past me on a path would see dogs as a threat and move away from as much human interaction.
Dog's are not nature and can stress and chase the animal residents in thier natural habitat? For us ,we come to see nature and not exercise our dogs
I googled "places to walk dog in Tulsa, Ok" and I keep getting every place that doesn't allow dogs. Why are they even on the list if they're not allowed? Waste of time.
I know one reason being is because of the beaver lodge that's located off of the lake. They don't want the beavaors to be under stress or being harassed. It's silly I know, but it's just one of the reasons that I know of.
