Don't go in the middle of the day. Best time is about 1 1/2 hours before sundown.

Went in october saw alot.hit or miss in april.like everyone else says better to see them when in rut.but thats when there r a million people there cant get away from the tons of people to see them.crazy trafgic loud people its ridiculous

September is your best time when the rut is on. We were there in October, no elk at the visitor center but drove on further past the center and came across a herd in a field.

Best time is the Fall, Bulls looking for Cows. I was there in July, did not see any, same time of day.

They say you can see them most any time. Some times they are far out and we even had to stop to let them cross the road, they walked and they were in no hurry. That was in October. But people do go all year.
