You can do either. Even if you picked that you wanted to drive the boat, they are very accommodating and will dock it for you and take you for a ride. We rented the big boat and it was a little interesting trying to keep away from the even bigger barges. I don't believe they charge extra to dock you and whatnot. I would ask them.
When I spoke to him there was an offer to pilot the boat and park it and give us a fishing boat for back and forth transportation. Not sure what the charge was if there was as we just decided it was the safest best thing to do. I have not done this but have checked into it many times just could never get a group of people to agree on a date. You know how it is. But come October the price is cheaper and the boats don't leave dockside. You just stay overnight right there at the dock which is really nice walk through town to the local bars and restaurants
