We didn't have to check in with a person. We grabbed an envelope from the gate, picked out a site, wrote the info on the envelope and card, then dropped it into the slot. The detached card goes on the post at your site. So, you don't have to check in with a person. However, it's all first come, first served, so there's no guarantee of an available site. It was pretty empty when we came a month ago (on a rainy day) but i bet it's busy in the summer. It's a lovely campground and park though. Enjoy

Kimberly's post is accurate. I cheated about three weeks ago by leaving a note on the post and settling up in the morning. Beautiful campground, friendly folks.
