Go to whichever is closer to you. Then hit the other one on another day.
Both are great day trips. Lale Lure is more commercial whereas south mountain is pure woods.

South Mountain is way less busy than Chimney Rock is. I enjoy both but love SMSP
There is alot more to do and the views are amazing from chimney rock, also more people and money to spend there. As for lake lure I've never had the pleasure of going there but want to real soon one of my favorite movies was filmed there you might know it according on your age it's called( Dirty Dancing ) starring Patrick Swayze. they are all great in there on ways I agree with Gene Rollins start with the most convenient and go from there with it!👌
