It was built in 1965, named the most beautiful steel bridge in 1966, is a steel deck truss, sits 565' above the river, is the 7th highest bridge in the US, is the 82nd highest in the world, and has been in multiple movies including Natural Born Killers, Wild Hogs, & The Signal. It's worth the effort to see it!
The view is gorgeous! The inspirational messages are motivating. And seeing the sheep on the top of the riverbank, was icing on the cake.
It's beautiful! Some of the signs are sad, but inspirational for sure. If you're a hiker or mountain biker, there is a great trail that runs south from the parking area. There's also a great brewery that you pass on the way there. It's about 1 mile east of the gorge. You can also go to Taos and see the pueblos. It's all amazing!
