Are we permitted to pick the oranges and grapefruit?

I think I remember there being an announcement last year about a day to come pick all the fruit so that it could be given to local food banks and facilities for homeless. I've never seen a rule about picking or not picking though.

I have always grabbed a few oranges because so many on the ground going to waste. No one has ever said not too and signs are not posted that say do not pick fruit.

Unfortunately I believe you can't.
